The material in this book is generally representative of the view it sets out to display in parallel. The problem is the format - it really needs to be a large format book with much more on each page; trying to follow and compare an argument regarding a particular passage over multiple pages, with, more often than not, direct comparisons on the same page not possible is difficult and frustrating. To compare and contrast, I have a parallel synoptic gospels text split into pericopes that is much larger format and is consequently far easier to use.

It is so difficult to find resources on the book of Revelation that aren't written with the objective of persuading the reader to accept a particular theological perspective on eschatology. The author assumes his reader is capable of critical though, and presents the 4 main views of each passage with clarity and without bias. An excellent study resource.

Not really a commentary in the usual sense but more like a high level survey of the four main interpretive views of Revelation, which have been listed elsewhere in these reviews. Steve Gregg wrote all four "commentaries" and, although he has his own particular favorite viewpoint, he does admirably well at hiding his personal bias. Steve quotes extensively from his primary source commentaries. My sense is that this is a good introduction into the complexities and controversies around Revelation, but a serious student will want to delve deeply into several of the more traditional verse-by-verse commentaries Steve quotes. Amazon has several for sale; others, including free web versions can be located using your search engine. A word of caution however: if you are a member of a particular denomination, you may want advice from your leadership as to which commentaries fit your denomination's beliefs, lest you be "led astray." If you are of a more scholarly inclination, like me, you will want to read several and be ready for some lively discussions. The updated edition re-labels one of the four views and includes some additional references not available for the first addition.

For anyone who is studying Revelation and wants to know the 4 main views of HOW people interpret Revelation, this is your book. I teach the Bible and wanted a concise book that explains the 4 views (preterist, idealist, futurist and historicist) so I could present them all to my class. The introduction to this book was great, great background and set up for Revelation. And as Steve Gregg gets into Chapter 20 he changes to the main views of the Millennium, he puts it in 3 categories (others may put it in 4).

Very, very good book. I highly recommend as someone who has been studying the Bible for 40 hours a week for the past 5 years.

A balanced and thorough assessment which is likely to increase your respect for views you haven't previously considered. The verse by verse four-part commentary is especially helpful as opposed to a more general comparison of views.

I greatly appreciate the immense work that went into collecting all the commentaries then distilling them down into a well organized, readily understandable, concise, and objective commentary. While Mr. Greg's role is largely one of editor, his insight into Revelation is apparent. Highly recommended for those seeking to understand the different ways to look at Revelation and then arrive at their own conclusions or synthesis.

This commentary really does come as advertised. I am through Chapter 5, and there is no favoritism towards any view that I have seen. There is a lot of detail on all the views in the introduction, which sets up the rest of the book. It is really helping me in understanding the different viewpoints.

Most commentaries present their view of what the scripture says. But in Revelation there are differing views on the timing of events. Are some future or have they happened? This book set all of these side by side in comparison.
