5.0 out of 5 stars Third Day's "Revelation"
After three long years, the wait is finally over. Third Day is back with "Revelation", their first album of all new material since 2005's "Wherever You Are" and their first following the departure of long-time guitarist Brad Avery (this is his final album with the band despite not being credited as an official band member).

3.0 out of 5 stars Wire Returns Dressed As Revelation
IF you liked Wire you will like this cd. If you were let down by Wire and felt that it tended to push God to the back with its ambiguous and secular lyrics then you won't like this cd as much either. However Revelation is better than Wire in its musical sound efforts and I did find that I liked more songs than Wire. The first half of Revelation was great and I was excited...

5.0 out of 5 stars Third Day's "Revelation", July 29, 2008

After three long years, the wait is finally over. Third Day is back with "Revelation", their first album of all new material since 2005's "Wherever You Are" and their first following the departure of long-time guitarist Brad Avery (this is his final album with the band despite not being credited as an official band member).
Musically and lyrically, "Revelation" is loaded with all of the elements that make Third Day who they are. Their unmistakable Southern rock style is heard throughout the entire CD and singer Mac Powell's voice is still full of grit and passion. Above and beyond the music, Third Day's powerful Christian message and lyrics of uplifting hope and encouragement cut straight to the heart especially in the songs "Call My Name", "Let Me Love You" and "Take It All".
"Revelation" also has some notable guest apperances from Chris Daughtry who sings backup on "Slow Down", Flyleaf's lead singer Lacey Moesely on "Run To You" and "Born Again" and steel guitar extraordinaire Robert Randolph who plays a mouth-dropping solo on "Otherside".
With all this said, if you've enjoyed the music of Third Day in the past, you'll definitely love "Revelation". This is one of their strongest albums to date and definitely shows Third Day at their very best.
Truly a Revelation indeed!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A strong effort that includes some pop/rock gems, July 30, 2008

This review is from: Revelation (Audio CD)
Third Day is in fine form on Revelation, their first new studio recording since Christmas Offerings (2006). With the departure of guitarist Brad Avery, whose contribution to this project is acknowledged by the band, Third Day is now a foursome.

From the opening "This Is Who I Am" the band makes it clear that this is a rock album. Don't expect to find any praise and worship songs. Third Day rocks hard throughout the recording, but they sound best when they are in the more moderate pop/rock mode. The melodies are stronger, which makes for better songs.

The best example may be the title song, which is a pop/rock gem. It starts off as a keyboard ballad that has a beautiful chiming guitar on the chorus. The song captures the feeling of what it's like to lose your way. The chorus is a plea for God to show one what to do. Even Christians lose their way at times. I appreciate the fact that this song and several others give voice to the struggles that are common to us all.

Another outstanding track is "Born Again," which is a duet with Flyleaf's Lacey Mosley. She also sings on "Run to You." Sadly, the words "born again" seem to carry a lot of baggage in our society. But this is the best song with those words that I have ever heard. This is a beautifully written and performed ballad.

"Today I found myself searching all these years
And the man that I saw wasn't all who I thought he'd be
I was lost when you found me here
I was broken beyond repair
Then you came along and sang your song over me
Feels like I'm born again, feels like I'm living
For the very first time in my life."

With it's poignant lyrics, dreamy guitar and peaceful sounds, this may be my favorite song. It's the ultimate soundtrack for making a new start with God.

"Slow Down" is a great blues rock song. Robert Randolph adds his amazing playing to "The Other Side," but the song is not one of the most compelling.

In contrast to the songs that give voice to our fallen condition, a number of songs are written from God's perspective, offering love, hope and comfort. The first single, "Call My Name" is a prime example. Drummer David Carr has said, "Sharing God's love with people has always been core to us. We want to reiterate that God loves us." Lyrics like this are comforting to me. When I am hurting, it's the simple truths that mean the most. Third Day has done an excellent job of gracefully weaving these precious realities into a number of these songs.

"Take It All" is an acoustic song of surrender. I would like to hear more of the acoustic side of Third Day.

This is a strong collection of songs that with few exceptions I took to immediately. Not having heard much of their previous work, I can't say with authority that this is among their best recordings, but I would guess that it's true. I would not hesitate to recommend this to Third Day fans and fans of pop/rock.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Gem By Third Day, August 3, 2008

Third Day has been one of the premiere bands in Christian music for many years. In 'Revelation' they have put together another great album.

It is an album with great rock music, a solid Christian message, and superb vocals. Along with Mac Powell's trademark voice, this one features two songs that also contain the singing of Flyleaf's Lacey Moseley. Although they seem like an odd pairing at first due to such different styles, the combined effect certainly works well.

There are many very good songs on this CD. Some of my favorites include the following: Call My Name, Run To You, Revelation, Slow Down, Born Again, and Take It All. There are no bad songs in this collection.

I would srongly recommend this for any fan of rock and/or contemporary Christian music.

Excellent album. This may be Third Day's best album yet. Music, lyrics and vocals are well done. Love the guest vocals. I listen to this OVER and OVER.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceeded my Expectations, July 31, 2008
This review is from: Revelation (Audio CD)
The music on this album exceeded my expectations. The addition of Daughtry and Lacey Mosley from Flyleaf as backup vocals sounds great. I particularly like the modern vibe it gives. Many times I buy a CD from an artist and only end up liking one or two songs. But with this one, I really liked almost every one right off that bat. All you have to do is take a sneek peek listen to tell they're all great songs. Awesome job Third Day!

Just got into Third Day's music and I was so glad to see they had a new cd coming out july 29. Had to get this one, and it doesn't disappoint. USA Today gave it three stars and said christian and rock share the same traits, and that this cd doesn't compromise either one. My favorite song is the title track and USA Today listed three different songs to download, otherside, run to you and call my name. So lots of good stuff on here.

As a follower of Third Day since they played in our fellowship hall for $500, I think this album delivers!! These guys are so real and their relationship with Christ continues to be evident in their songs. What an inspiration they are and not at all surprised how blessed they've been. Third Day is proof enough that you can walk on water if you keep your eyes on Jesus! buy it...this one will have as many chart toppers if not more than the last.

5.0 out of 5 stars this album is AWESOME, July 29, 2008

This album is AWESOME. I have seen some of the songs in concert and listened to others online.
Don't listen to these cover art comments. It is what is inside that counts. The new songs on this album are already being covered and played on Christian Radio and "Call My Name" is a hit even before release.
The band really stretches to do something new and to tackle lyrics that are challenging to your faith and connecting to your life.
Buy it and enjoy!

Third Day is one of the few artists that I still purchase the entire cd instead of individual tracks. And this time they have overwhelmed me...each and every song on this cd. Well done guys!

5.0 out of 5 stars REVELATION Rocks, July 29, 2008
This review is from: Revelation (Audio CD)
REVELATION Rocks!!

Unlike someone who would review an album without actually listening to it, I HAVE listened to this album ALOT. I pre-ordered it from Third Day's website & have been listening to a live stream of the entire album since May 5, 08. Needless to say, I have listened to it DOZENS of times.
Here's my take on it:

Whether you are into Christian music, or not, REVELATION rocks!!

I think many people will be able to relate to the lyrics regarding the struggles of everyday life.
This is quite easily the most diverse album that Christian rockers, THIRD DAY, has ever released...but it all works, and works WELL.
The sound is new & fresh, which isn't always easy to pull off after 10 albums!

The album is very spiritual without being at all "preachy."

With the first line of the album "I'm the son of a good man, I'm the child of an angel, I'm the brother of a wild one, & I'm looking for direction..."

THIS IS WHO I AM ~ starts us off rocking asking the Lord to "Take me as I am, but please don't leave me that way. I know that You can make me better than I am today."

SLOWDOWN ~ Asking for God's help to slow down if the road that we're on is leading nowhere. Background vocals by Chris Daughtry & guitars by Robert Randolph

CALL MY NAME ~ the awesome "power ballad" that has been #1 for 5 straight weeks (as of the album release date) reminds us that the Lord said "Call My name & I'll be there." Best radio hit I've heard in years!

RUN TO YOU ~ "If I run to You, will You hold me in Your arms forevermore? " An awesome duet with Lacey Mosley of Flyleaf

REVELATION ~ The title track. "My life has lead me down the road that's so uncertain...Give me a revelation, show me what to do, `cause I've been trying to find my way, I haven't got a clue."

OTHERSIDE ~ "Old School Third Day" Rocker. "Take me to the other side `cause I want to live forever."

LET ME LOVE YOU ~ Beautiful love song from God's point of view. "Come on let Me love you & hold you through the storms... will always be here."

I WILL ALWAYS BE TRUE ~ From Jesus` perspective. "Every day that I lived through, every breath I breathed, yes, it all was for you. I will always be true."

BORN AGAIN ~ Another beautiful duet with Lacey Mosley from Flyleaf. "It feels like I'm born again, it feels like I'm living for the very first time in my life."

GIVE LOVE ~ Another beautiful love song from God's perspective. "Whisper softly to Me, share with me your heart...if you give love, I'll return the love & you will see, so much more than you gave to Me."

CAUGHT UP IN YOURSELF ~ "You're so good, but you'll never be good enough." (You can't earn your way into Heaven.) "Thank God for mercy, thank God for His grace. Thank God for everything you've got, before it's too late."

READY ~ "I'm ready for the winds to change, I'm ready for a brighter day... I'm ready now to take a stand & to live life for more than myself."

TAKE IT ALL ~ "Now I'm ready to let it go, to give it away...Take it all, `cause I can't take it any longer. All I have, I can't make it on my own. Take the first, take the last, take the good and take the rest. Here I am, all I have, take it all." Pretty much says it all.

As far as stands outs go, MOST of the songs on the album ARE standouts!

Regarding the album art mentioned in another post ~
As stated on their website at
http://www.thirdday.com/revrev/revelations.htm
The album art is modeled after Salvation Mountain. Salvation Mountain is a real place. Located north of Calipatria, California, it has been entered to the congressional record as a national treasure. Leonard Knight created Salvation Mountain as a large public art project designed to send the message that "God Loves Everyone." Third Day drew inspiration from Salvation Mountain to create the album cover for their new album, "Revelation." "The cover is an artistic interpretation of Knight's creation composed of the song titles of the album to send our own message of God's love to the world."

The Radiohead cover is just a bunch of words stacked up in tiles. I see a slight similarity, but that's it.
The Revelation cover could very well represent the hill at Calvary where Jesus died.
