The second generation Corvette was an immediate hit with consumers when it was introduced in late 1962. Racers also looked forward to getting their hands on the new car, now also known as the Sting Ray. Besides the gorgeous, much more aerodynamically sleek new body, the Vette benefited from a new independent rear suspension and a redesigned front suspension and steering system, making it the sweetest handling Corvette ever. With the addition of the 427 V8, it was a killer at the racetracks, putting notable early Corvette racers such as Dick Guldstrand, Mark Donahue, Bob Bondurant and A.J. Foyt into Victory Lane many times in the 1960's.
