This review is from: Revell Kenworth W900 (Toy)
If you are buying this for your kid as an introduction to the hobby, it's probably ok. If you are a serious modeler, however, you are probably better off buying the newer Revell Of Germany Kenworth, or another kit that doesn't have such an aged pedigree.1st, the good. The model has quite a bit of detail molded in. The cab exterior looks quite good, as well as the frame and engine. Details are supplied for two different versions. Tires are of almost scale thickness rubber, meaning they're quite flexible, although they do lack any sort of branding or text on the sidewalls. Kit instructions are clear and understandable. The price is pretty reasonable for what you get. According to the stamped information on the bottom of the chassis mold, this is a 1982 vintage kit. Now the bad: The model has details that are incompletely or inaccurately molded, or simply not there at all. Engine oil filter is only a 3/4 cylinder shape. The side view mirrors are secured to the cab body at the top, and the door at the bottom, which in real life would make opening the doors impossible. The cab interior lacks any detail whatsoever from the bottom of the side windows up to the ceiling. The interior is just basically a tub that the seats, dash, and steering wheel are glued into. The sleeper portion of the cab is completely inaccurate. The bunk is raised about 8 scale feet so as to be visible through the Aerodyne windows. In real life the bunk is about two feet off the cab floor. Side walls and ceiling are again left without details, and even holes for exterior parts are visible. Although the tires seem to have decently molded tread, they lack sidewall text details such as tire brand, and they also are a bit thin, so when assembled to the rims the "bead" does not sit flush against the rim. In addition, the tire/wheel assembly for the rear tires is almost impossible to align in any sort of parallel fashion. In other words, the rear tires do not sit parallel to each other in their tandem pairs. Lenses for all lights are clear or colored, but their mounting holes in the chassis will be visible unless you paint the back of the lenses. Chrome is average, but if you intend to sand the fuel tank seams, you will need to either think of an alternative chroming option, or paint the tanks the body color. Also the tabs that hold the vehicle interior in place stick out of the back of the cab, so some sanding will be necessary there as well, before paint goes on. CB antennas are mounted on the mirrors, which is ok, but the antennas are a bit thick for scale. And lastly, the windshield wipers are molded with the bottom half on the body, and the top half on the clear windshield plastic. Overall, I'd say it achieves a basic representation of a Kenworth W900 model, but seriously lacks in detail and accuracy.
