This is Count Dracula, capable of transforming himself into a bat or wolf, but he must find repose by dawn in a box containing his native soil or be destroyed by the rays of the sun. This is my first large figure model and I really enjoyed building and painting it. I thought it was a brand new model design but I found out that this model is very old. The model comes from a design made from the 1960's so not everything fit together perfectly. Almost all parts that I glued together needed putty to fill in the seams. But once I filled in the seams and painted the model, Dracula came to life. The details on the his face is great with his scary look. The rest of his body looks good with good detail. The diorama base with the dead tree and vampire bats really makes this model stand out. It was worth every penny to buy this model and I have no regrets building it.

I reccomend this to people of all skills levels. Although it was meant for modeers with more experience I think even the beginner will still be able to build it and be satisfied with his/her results.

The 1960s vintage Aurora "Dracula" kit has been issued and reissued countless times over the last 40 years. This version, sadly, has been tinkered with, as the original Aurora head, which more or less depicted Bela Lugosi, was removed. Aparently legal issues between Revell, Universal and the Lugosi estate required this change. The new head is a disappointment... its a bit too large and while well detailed doesn't have the best proportions. The face looks somewhat like Christopher Lee. The plastic head in the kit does look better than the awful painted version on the box art. Having said all that, the rest of the kit is pretty much the same as it was for the last 40 years. The parts are molded in a nice light grey plastic that is easy to paint (many issues came in black, which was hard to paint for the red and white areas). You get the same grarled tree, vampire bats, etc. The molds show a lot of wear and there is a good bit of flashing on the parts to remove, especially on Dracula's ring, which is just a lumpy blob. Nothing most modellers cant take care of with an X-Acto knife, though. The instructions are very basic, although most of the assembly is pretty self explanatory. Its always nice to see these kits out again, although the modification to the classic, original mold, is disappointing. If you aren't fussy though its still a nice kit.

The Revell 1:8 Dracula model kit is a very detailed model kit very similar to the 60's Aurora monster kits. As a kid I had purchased and built several of these monster kits but I never bought the Dracula kit. Now, as an adult I decided to finish my collection and now I have the Dracula and Frankenstein kits added to my collection. For anyone who is into monster movies these models are great collectables. The other 3 kits that are available from Revell are Frankenstein, Wolfman and The Mummy. Thanks.....GW
