Editorial Reviews

''Gypsyhawk is four metal dudes playing rock & roll, bringing the party every time they get on stage,'' states guitarist Andrew Packer, and there is perhaps no better way of surmising the spirit and sound of the Pasadena, California quartet. Revisiting the electrifying sounds of bull-s*** free '70s rock, the band are a breath of fresh air compared to the endless onslaught of breakdown obsessed bands cluttering up heavy music. Marinating their wares in whiskey and weed, they hurl out blistering riffs with irresistible hooks & grooves, doing their damnedest to ensure that everyone at their shows is having as much fun as they are. With 'Revelry & Resilience', their second full-length & Metal Blade debut, this vibe bleeds from the speakers from start to finish, determinedly putting a smile on your face and compelling you to throw you hair around, no matter how much or how little you might have.

Harmonized guitars, melodic vocals, and groovy rhythms... good stuff!
Bryan Hitchcock
Like with any great album, some songs are better than others but all in all, this is a really fun and sonically face melting platter of hard edged rock n' roll.
Don de Leaumont
They have all the elements from back in the day, as well as bringing it all into the now.
Cecil A. Allen

It's impossible to deny the Thin Lizzy influence here, but it feels like an homage moreso than a rip-off. This is straight-up old school 70s feel hard rock that had me smiling and bobbing my head like I was in the middle of a joint line at an old Black Sabbath show in the 70s. A great kick to the balls of modern rock. Sample it, then buy it, then blast it. The boys aren't back in town, but their bastard offspring just may be.

I saw these guys here in Sacramento tonight and they really rocked. Great musicianship and friendly vibe. The album has a great classic rock influence, which is fine by me. These dudes can really play and sing. Harmonized guitars, melodic vocals, and groovy rhythms... good stuff! Keep on rocking, Gypsy Hawk.

Follow up album to their debut "Patience and Perserverance" is a monster album. Thick and catchy guitar riffs are abundant throughout this album. The first two songs are easy to digest, some other songs take longer to come around to. The album is filled with Think Lizzyish vocal and riffs but a hair more aggressive and modern. If you like the classic rock sound of so many bands of the 60s and 70s, I believe you'll like this.

Technology is a wonderful thing. Discovering new artists/music is so much easier than in the past. I have bought several albums from artists I've never heard of by listening to 30 second clips of songs, or by getting an Amazon recommendation because of a previous purchase. Gypsyhawk's album, Patience and Perseverance, is one such purchase. I had never heard of them before, but because I recently purchased The Sword's, "Apocryphon", Amazon recommended Gypsyhawk's album. After listening to the 30 second clips of all tracks I bought it immediately. It's one of the best hard rock/metal purchases I've made in recent years. Every track stands on its own as a great song with a nice hook, great guitar solos (a lot of the twin axe solos), and thundering beat. The bassist/vocalist is good in his own right and you definitely hear Thin Lizzy, early Metallica, and others as I'm discovering daily.

Favorite tracks on the album... "Overloaded", "The Fields", and "State Lines". There's also a nice cover of Rick Derringer's "Rock n' Roll Hoochie Koo". Just a great solid second album from Gypsyhawk.
