5.0 out of 5 stars "Give me liberty or give me death, Zogwarg Queen!", December 10, 2003

Michael Crane (Orland Park, IL USA) - See all my reviews
No matter how many times I read them, I can never get tired of Calvin and Hobbes. They're funny, creative, and are always getting into some sort of hijinx that could just about get them grounded for life. "The Revenge of the Baby-Sat" offers such adventures as that in a funny and entertaining way.

Calvin is always getting into trouble. Him and his stuffed tiger, Hobbes, are always faced with obstacles; from Calvin's parents to his teacher. One of the main obstacles he faces in this book is a deranged baby-sitter (or at least, that's how he sees her). But hey, no problem! Calvin and Hobbes have a plan to get back at the baby-sitter once and for all!

Other adventures in the book can be found, such as:

*Calvin tries to play hooky*
*Calvin's picture session with his father*
*The Beanie Epic*
*Calvin forgets his "bug project"*
*Calvin's house gets broken into*
*"The Pushing of the Car Down the Drive" incident*
*Calvin cleans his room*
and many more!

"The Revenge of the Baby-Sat" is127 pages of Calvin and Hobbes hilarity. Bill Watterson never ceases to amaze me with his witty creativity and well-executed humor. This is something that can be enjoyed by kids, as well as adults. This is an outstanding collection of Calvin and Hobbes comic strips that should be checked out by anybody who's a fan of the comic strip (or anybody who loves to laugh). A five-star collection that continues to entertain me without missing a single beat.

It is my feeling that Bill Watterson had enough integrity and ethics to prevent the syndicate from cranking out endless meaninglessly repetitive compilations. Of course, he did quit partly because he was becoming disgusted with many of the commercial aspects of his work. With most comics, even good ones, the collections get stale after a few. Watterson's collections dont. There are a dozen or so C&H compilations/collections, but you wont be dissapointed with owning the whole shebang, especially since Watterson frequently did a lot of extra work to ensure that each collection had something new to offer. Even without this extra stuff, Watterson's body of work is extensive enought to warrant owning all these collections. He was steadily cranking out great material for a decade or so, and if you are like me you will be reading some C&H weekly for as long as you are on this earth, so tons of books is not a bad thing. Basically, I wholeheartedly reccomend all the books. If you like one you will like them all. They only get better as you get to know the characters. Watterson never goes for the cheap laugh by having any of the comic's principals act out of character. As you progress through the years with C&H, and I do reccomend reading them in order, you will see how art progresses and grows when the artist is committed to excellent work. So, go get the first one, titled simply Calvin & Hobbes, and then start down the enjoyable road to making Calvin and his tiger a pleasant little chunk of your life. (Yes, i have repeated this review for every C&H book I own, wich is all of them, so get used to seeing all this anytime you look one of them up)

5.0 out of 5 stars Cracks me up every time!!, October 10, 2001
Bill Waterson has done it again. And what I mean by that is made up another wounderfly funny Calvin and Hobbes collection book from his famous cartoon strip. This book has all the basics that has made all Calvin and Hobbes fans laugh for years- Calvin getting in trouble with his mom, teacher, princibal, dad; Calvin having "fun" in the snow with his sled, and with his red wagon inthe summer; Calvin and Hobbes running away from home constantly; Calvin dening love to Susie; Calvin making rude comments and asking the tough questions; and the untimely philosophy of Calvin. This also has the favorite , the on going battle between Calvin and the wicked baby-sitter Merylin. This is a great book and also a great edition to the millions of Calvin and Hobbes fans collections. This is a must buy even if you a first time C&H's reader, it would be a good way to start your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Revenge of Watterson, December 19, 2001
This is an excellent book; Bill Watterson did a fine job. Yet, what I noticed after reading it for the millionth time is that this book, and "Scientific Progress Goes 'Boink'" are put together to make "The Indispensable Calvin and Hobbes." Of course, this is only a collection and "The Indispensable Calvin and Hobbes" is a treasury, but I wish I had saved my money and bought Indispensable instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get your "Revenge", July 26, 2000
The title of this book refers to the classic sequence of strips in which Calvin plots revenge on his "demonic" babysitter by kidnapping her homework and threatening to flush it down the toilet. Hobbes, wisely, tries to opt out of the operation. This is another outstanding collection in the Calvin and Hobbes series. Bill Watterson is a comic genius whose presence in the funny pages has been sorely missed since his retirement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Revenge of the Baby-Sat Review, April 20, 2010
Bill Watterson's "Calvin & Hobbes" is a rare treat to the American entertainment world. It's a classic comic strip about a six year old mischievous boy and his make believe best friend: the stuffed tiger, Hobbes. I've been rereading all of the books in this series throughout my life, and I never tire of them. Watterson's magnificent blend of simple childhood humor, advanced appropriate grown-up humor, make-believe and childhood realism make this well written and illustrated comic strip a treasure to have in any household. Both adults, and children will love it.

In this book we join Calvin and Hobbes as they steal their feared baby-sitter's (Rosalyn) school notes, and lock themselves in the bathroom. They then threaten to flush her notes down the toilet if their demands are not met - mischievous, but all in good fun. Calvin and Hobbes also start their own club called GROSS, which stands for: Get Rid Of Slimy girls. The club reappears in future books. The main girl that Calvin doesn't like, Suzie, gets the better of Calvin on many occasions.

This book explores many humorous aspects to the life of a six year old boy. His hatred of school and girls, his wild imagination which at times will cause him to morph into his alter-ego: Spaceman Spiff, and the hindrance of having loving parents who want him to be responsible.

Darien Summers, author of The Mischievous Hare, a children's book.

F-U-N-N-Y! I don't have the whole collection of their comic strips but i can tell that this one just make me wanted to buy all the collection. I think Calvin and Hobbes are the most funny cartoon characters i have ever ever seen in my life. And if i had money, i would just buy all of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!!!!!!!!!, July 26, 1999
By A Customer
I own all but three Calvin and Hobbes books, and I have never not enjoyed one of these books. Some of the cartoons in the books are a little out of place, but others are hilarious!! I was sad to see Calvin and Hobbes go, but at least I can read the strip in the books. I also suggest Scientific Progress Goes "Boink" and The Days Are Just Packed. I don't pick favorites because they're all great. If you ever see this book, PICK IT UP!! Buy it the first time you see it, I promise it will be worth your money!! Five Stars: *****
