Book Description

THE CAMILLA RANDALL MYSTERIES: Snarky, delicious fun. Perennially down-and-out socialite Camilla Randall is a magnet for murder, mayhem and Mr. Wrong, but she always solves the mystery in her quirky, but oh-so-polite way.
.
“Twisted chick lit noir with a side of funny.” Ruth Harris, NYT bestselling author of Hooked and Love and Money.
.
“Anne R. Allen is a genius at fast and witty dialogue.” Paul Fahey, author of 16 Podewale Street
.
“Agatha Christie meets Dorothy Parker.” Saffina Desforges, bestselling author of Sugar and Spice/Paraphilia
~
The Best Revenge
.
This prequel to the Camilla Randall mysteries romps through the glitzy 1980s, when 19-year-old Camilla loses everything: her fortune, her gay best friend, and eventually her freedom. When she’s falsely accused of a TV star's murder, she discovers she’s made of sterner stuff than anyone imagined—herself included.
.
In typical Anne R. Allen fashion, the plot twists and turns from one breathless misadventure to another, leading to a finish sure to catch the reader by surprise.

About the Author

Anne R. Allen is a master at writing romantic-comedy-suspense novels. Food of Love, her first, was originally published in the UK in 2003 by maverick publisher Babash-Ryan (now sadly defunct). This edition has been updated with new material especially for Popcorn Press. Anne's second novel, The Best Revenge, was also originally published by Babash-Ryan, in 2005. A new edition to be released by Popcorn Press is currently in the works. She is also working on a third novel in this genre. Anne serves on the faculty of the Central Coast Writers Conference in gorgeous San Luis Obispo, CA - "the happiest town on earth." She also maintains a regularly updated writing blog at annerallen.blogspot.com.

I loved this book. Anne R. Allen is a genius at fast and witty dialogue. The characters are great fun and the plot just zooms along. Each chapter is a gem in itself. I can't wait to read more in this series. If you haven't read Anne R. Allen's books, it's time to get started. What are you waiting for? Highly recommend to anyone wanting a breezy, funny read.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Historical Novel of the Nineteen Eighties June 28, 2007
Format:Paperback
This a great read; funny, fast paced. Eighties disco glitter spangles every page. Outrageous details of designer clothes, unlikely coincidences, romantic confusion abound. Allen's book is original and crisp. Gay Culture is accurately depicted. "Best Revenge" is full of unexpected humor as "predictable" characters act against type. Life can be funnier!

5.0 out of 5 stars Anne Allen Strikes Again! July 9, 2007
Format:Paperback
Anne Allen has done it again, another witty, engaging look at the foibles of our times. Well, my times, I was there for the 80s. Like Food of Love, Best Revenge is part bildungs roman, part picaresque "Perils of Pauline" (Calamities of Camilla?) that while laugh-out-loud funny, carries a message about how we view ourselves and how others' views of us may conflict, yet make us grow. Just as when I read Food of Love, I was up till the wee hours reading the last third of the book at breakneck (or break-page-turning thumb) speed. But this time, when I finished, I immediately started over and reread the first third! See if you can read it just once!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Beach Read May 29, 2012
Format:Paperback
Once I started THE BEST REVENGE, I found I couldn't put it down. An engaging Hollywood caper set during the 1980's pits a fashionable New York debutante against a hard nosed reporter who's had a bad day. I don't even know what to classify this book as -- thriller, romance, comedy, drama, whodunit, who's going to do it -- it has everything, including a sappy happy ending.

Allen's thinly veiled L.A. stars light up the pages as I tried to figure out who was who. Camillia Randall starts off as a lowly health food columnist who then somehow gets involved in the murder/suicide of superstar Jon Don Parker. Laughs ensue as she tries to explain to everyone she didn't do it. Nobody believes her except a crazy old lady who has a penchant for purple. (Who truly is the "star" of this novel.)

Allen's wit and dry humor had me from the first, but this line -- She knew he was probably being honest, but how could she trust a man who said he'd always been a liar. -- is an absolute gem.

I cannot wait to read the rest of Allen's work. And definitely put this on your summer beach reading list. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Anne Allen's at it again October 2, 2005
Format:Paperback
Poor Camilla Randall is forced to make her getaway in a DeLorean from accusations of murder. Instead of heading back to her past to fix her future, she finds a new and laughable life, avoiding a lusty Colonel Sanders with something other than chicken on his mind, embracing an egotistic yet attractive news editor -- also with something other than chicken on his mind, and appreciating a charmingly wacky senior citizen with a lavender Edsel and who-knows-what on her mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Get Mad, Just Get Even April 9, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Yup, your favorite heroine is back. All style and gracious mannerisms. Sometimes you want to shake some awareness into Camilla, but what fun would that be? You WANT her to figure things out even though you have done so long before. Again, Anne Allen has a winner!
