A mind-blowing, incredibly masculine short story comes alive,

I have NOT heard this on tape, but I was blown away by the sheer masculine power and knowledge of this short story. For me, it's one of the modern iconic examples of powerful "male" writing. I use that term because frankly, let's face it, lots of the books about emotions out there are pretty darn girly. But also because IMHO he's the other side of the coin from Alice Adams, who is an extremely womanly writer. This whole story is about two men fighting over a woman and taking revenge on one another. Gradually, the woman becomes a smaller part of the story, until the focus is on the men themselves. It's short and sweet. Powerful without being hystrionic. Check it out. |
