5.0 out of 5 stars This is the country I remember growing up with!!!!
Music with heart, a bass line hits deep in the heart, and a rythem you can't keep your feet from moving to. This is the type of music I remember growing up with... Not a bunch of glitz with no heart but something you can listen to over and over to. A friend of mine bought "full western dress" as a birthday present for me when he saw them at Houston's...

Not a bunch of glitz with no heart but something you can listen to over and over to. A friend of mine bought "full western dress" as a birthday present for me when he saw them at Houston's Continental Club. I couldn't stop listening to it and had to pick up my bass to play a few licks. Listening to Lover's Lie, Lost and Found,etc.. and you'll know what I mean. Hey Steel Guitar still lives in Texas thanks to these guys!!!!!!!!! I'm putting this review on every cd because after hearing them on "Full Western Dress" I bought everything else they had on here and was not dissappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, fun music, July 15, 1999

I disagree totally with the Amazon.com reviewer on this disc and Jackpot. I think the Derailers make music that is a lot of fun to listen to. They have great concerts and the good time they very obviously have on stage is shared by all in the audience. The CDs are quite good too. This is not "serious" music made for soul-searching or anything like that. It's not supposed to be. It is fun, twangy music that is great to sing along to. The band is very tight and Villanueva has an interesting and good voice. They have another disc coming out before the fall and I intend to add that one to my collection too. If you like old-timey twangy music, surf-inspired type music and certain '50s-60's light up-beat pop, you will love the Derailers.

I finally am getting around to writing my thoughts about this excellent CD. I cant say enuf about it. This CD sounds like a greatest hits compilation! I love EVERY song on it and I dont think I can say that about any CD Ive ever purchased. The songs are catchy and so fun! Its hard to pick favorites but, I absolutely love California Angel, No One To Talk To, You Dont Have To Go.....oh its hard to pick! I have listened to Reverb countless times and I enjoy it every time. This band is wonderful and I truly wish all country fans would check them out, if they havent already!! This is one of the greatest cds Ive ever heard. Thanks Derailers! Wendy from MI.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Derailers---Reverd Deluxe, July 4, 2000

I just picked up this CD on 6/3/00. It is great. I hate it has been out so long and I am just now getting it. The Derailers have a sound some what like Buck Ownes or Dwight Yoakam. I would call it Honky Tonk Country. I am a fan of alt-country and this is one not to miss. The producer is Dave Alvin. When I saw he was the producer I knew this CD was worth a listen. I hope to get Western Dress soon.

These guys are fun! I often play this CD... it is so uplifting and nothing raises my spirits better. (except maybe Bob Marley) I do enjoy listening to their more melancholy tunes, especially "Can't Stop a Train" and "Dull Edge of the Blade". I love the pompadours, and the Spanish in "You Don't Have To Go" has helped inspire me to learn the language. I love these guys!

5.0 out of 5 stars super good, October 28, 2002
This review is from: Reverb Deluxe (Audio CD)
punk twang? cow punk? country jam funk? It's great! Defies labels, reaches the heart and lives up the reputation of "alternative country" Especially good cuts: 'Can't Stop A Train' and an amazing rendition of Prince's 'Raspberry Beret'
[a 'hidden' track at the end]...I used to listen to 'country-rock' in the 70s...bemoaned the loss of it...but now these guys and others like 'em have brought it back-but even better

It's too bad more people don't know about the Derailers. Their blend of country, rock and rockabilly is infectious, feel-good, and wonderfully listenable! The honky tonk style makes me wanna get up an' dance! Love Tony's vocals.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best modern honky tonk, September 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Reverb Deluxe (Audio CD)
There is no better honky tonk music than this CD. The first 2 cuts are incredible. This IS country music--forget Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Andy Griggs, Mark Wills, etc., etc., etc. The garbage coming out of Nashville is not country, with very few exceptions. I can't wait till 9/28 when the new Derailers CD comes out. You guys, keep it coming!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Twang, Great Songs, June 16, 2005
By
This review is from: Reverb Deluxe (Audio CD)
Like one of the other reviewers said - this is like a greatest hits CD. There's 14 tracks, and 12 of them could be singles. (If you could actually find radio stations that play this sort of country). All the tracks have a few things in common - perfect, tight harmonies; great twangy guitar; great steel guitar. But each track has it's own personality.

I bought this CD in 1999. It's 2005 now. And I still love this CD. This is one of those rare CD's where every track is catchy enough to grab your attention from the first listen. But there's so many little details & extra little touches - that the tracks still stand up to MANY repeated listens.

There are a few "heartache" numbers on this CD that I really love. (Can't Stop a Train, No One To Talk to But the Blues, Dull Edge of the Blade). But for the most part, this is an upbeat CD. It really puts me in a good mood, and makes me wanna dance!

If you ever get a chance to see these guys live - don't miss it. These guys obviously have a great time on stage, and you can't help but catch a little of that good vibe!

Some people would complain that these guys are re-hashing the Bakersfield sound. Like there's a problem with that? The Derailers pay homage to a great era of country music. And the songwriting is strong enough that they make a vintage style sound fresh.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!, April 14, 1999

This is a great CD. The first two Derailers CDs are very good, too. The Bakersfield, honky tonk sound is REAL country music, unlike 90% of the music that is called country.
