Henri Salvador is one of those rare performers who has exceptional taste in his choice of material and back up musicians and performs with great style and taste. His voice captures the deep rich tones of a first rate Latin vocalist often remembered from an earlier time.He has performed duets with Rosa Passos on her CD " Amorosa" in a fabulous and sensual version of "Qeu Reste-T IL De No Amours," by Charles Trenet and their singing is a testament to his versalility with language and her rich stylings. The song is a knockout of collaboration. This CD being reviewed has many selections for all tastes from the slow sexy poetic to the jazzed up standards of his repetoire. This is a singer who is an "individual" and not a clone of any popular or trendy musical genre. Rain or shine, his singing is a perfect choice for all moods and it is never disappointing to this listener. There are nostalgic upbeat contempory selections to be savored. His choices are never predictable but the joy of his voice is always a pleasure. Thomas Lee Randleman

The 'master',

My love with this man's music started accidentally when I found CDs in an ancient (still open) store (45s, 78s, and much new music). This CD was hard to get after his death, but I'm so glad I persisted. For those of you who don't know him, he's absolutely remarkable: jazz musician in the 40s, touring in South America 40's, writing constantly, variety tv show in France in 50-60s(combo of Soupy Sales, Milton Berle--cross dressing comedy skits, Nat King Cole--plays multiple instruments), collaboration with greatest French singers/songwriters(produced thousands of songs revered in France today-some 'translated' for Anglos)...working with musicians in their 20s/30s when he died...an unbelievable guy. Last live US show was surprise guest of Pink Martini at the Hollywood Bowl--he died shortly after. This CD, like 'Room with a View' is balladic...just one of his styles. Recall, as you listen, that this man was over 90 when recorded, and then compare it to Anita O'Day's last recordings: he kept his 'voice' in all senses of that work. A great CD to have/treasure. Also note that some places are charging over $35. for the CD(rarity or ripoff?) but you can get it through Amazon reasonable enough...mine was $8.!!!
