Book Description

January 5, 2007

4 years of college. 3½ years of grad school. A 5 minute phone call from a doctor changed everything. Eric was finally done with school and had everything going for him. A great job in San Diego, a ton of friends around him, and the active lifestyle he always dreamed of. Young people aren’t supposed to get tumors, but he did: A golf-ball sized brain tumor between the brain stem and the cerebellum. Reversal: When a Therapist Becomes a Patient is a compilation of journal and personal blog entries by a single, young, active male physical therapist that was diagnosed with a brain tumor. It chronicles his experiences when the tables were turned and he became a patient to the people he used to work with.

Follow his unique journey from the shocking diagnosis, the weeks before the surgery, the mysterious Radiation therapy, the lengthy rehab process, to his triumphant return to “normalcy”! Essays are included from family and friends that describe their personal experiences with having a loved one face these monumental challenges. The chapters and essays are popular song titles that correspond to the experiences of the authors. These songs are available as the “Reversal book soundtrack” iMix on iTunes. Discover the strategies one man used to fight the impairments of his brain tumor and consequent treatments.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great and inspiring story, February 5, 2008

This review is from: Reversal: When a Therapist Becomes a Patient (Paperback)
This book tells the intriguing and captivating story of a young athlete and his struggles to overcome the tremendous hardships of recovering from a brain tumor. His honest and often humorous description will not only be inspirational to other patients, therapists and doctors, but also to the average individual faced with day to day struggles. The uphill battle Eric endures following his surgery is a story that all readers can relate to in their own way. I recommend this book to everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring book, August 13, 2007
This review is from: Reversal: When a Therapist Becomes a Patient (Paperback)
I have to say that this book is a necessity for all Physical Therapists (and Occupational Therapists for that matter), and I sincerely hope it makes it into the mandatory reading list for those in training. The author's sense of humor and outlook in life is amazingly positive, and that reflects well in the book especially as he overcomes all of these incredible obstacles. He takes us on an adventure, from the surgery and through all of the rehab that came afterward in order to regain simple movements that we tend to take for granted. After reading this book, I promise never to take those things for granted again.
