good exposure, May 27, 2003
This review is from: Review of Nurse Anesthesia (Book with CD-ROM for Windows & Macintosh) (Paperback)
This review book is good for exposure to alot of different questions. There are a few errors in both the text and the CD-ROM. There are a few questions with miskeyed answer choices but correct rationales, but there are also a few mistyped or misworded questions. This review is good for exposure to alot of questions, and quick rationales (with references to texts), and the CD-ROM is formatted much like the computer testing is set up. My suggestion is if you feel that a question is answered erroneously, look it up, you may be right.

Quality Questions- but several errors in CD-ROM, February 20, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Review of Nurse Anesthesia (Book with CD-ROM for Windows & Macintosh) (Paperback)
I purchased this book in June of 2000 from Amazon.com. I've been told the more questions you are exposed to, the better you get at answering them. The book and CD provided a nice variety of questions, with brief rationale for correct answers, but be careful of the CD-ROM. In several instances, the answers were incorrectly programmed. It hasn't been the best review I've seen, but it is one of the few with a CD-ROM.

very little positive, August 30, 2010
This review is from: Review of Nurse Anesthesia (Book with CD-ROM for Windows & Macintosh) (Paperback)
So if i could give 0 stars, i would still give this one star because it will help identify some of your weaknesses for boards. However, the text is *super old*, though most of the material could be considered still applicable. What bothers me is that for $60 (still, even though it was written 10 years ago), they could have at least worked out the extremely large number of type-o's. Not only are there misspellings, there are outright wrong answers, that if i weren't currently educated enough to see them, i might consider what i was learning to be incorrect.
If you want to spend a bunch of money on test questions, i recommend the Barash that received almost 5 stars. Outlining its chapters according to volume of test questions (though targetting anesthesiologists, NOT CRNA's), that book is capable of helping you find your weaknesses, gives actual rationale to the questions (instead of what Nagelhout did in many cases which was basically just say the answer is a because the answer is a).
Additionally, most of Nagelhout's questions are not targeting synthesis of information. Instead, they are low level, memorization questions. When one gets to boards, one should be studying the whys of what one is doing. Memorization is important, but memorizing the answers to these questions doesn't help you in the long run. If you need test question practice, i suggest going to some of the more sophisticated texts to prepare for SEE and boards.
