i used this book and it guided me through the steps i needed. i also used a decrepit "general clep study guide" book, whew....it's from '85 or something. but both covered everything given on the outline. i scored a 570!!!! definitely recommend!! oh, and know probability, it's everywhere on the test. and although listed on the outline, there were no binary numbers.

While I appreciate the comprehensive coverage of the materials, I find that errors in examples, answers and explanations have no place in a book that purports to prepare one for a college level examination. I have yet to finish reading the book and have found several examples of poor editing, or typographical errors. The coverage, while certainly not in depth, should be adequate to prepare you to pass the examination, if you are already familiar with the material.

This book teaches a lot of concepts very well, but you may need some more learning (as I did) to fully cover yourself for the CLEP test. I took an online course to supplement.

This book really did help me prepare for the CLEP despite being outdated. Some of the information it gives you about the test is wrong - it is now better to guess at the answers than to leave them blank. I used other online resources to study also, but this book was great to have. I studied for several hours, once or twice a week, over the course of 2 month. I got the last 6 credits I needed to graduate, and got my diploma in the mail last week. :)

It's really easy and breezy to read with practice questions after each chapter. Combine with:
CLEP Official Study Guide 2011
CLEP General Exams w/ CD (REA) - The Best Test Prep for the CLEP Exam (Test Preps)
for best results. The exam is not not hard at all. I scored 70 and finished in an hour. The only thing on the real exam that's not included in any study guides is charts and diagrams.

Using this book (I also purchased another different math study book [general, not CLEP specific] from a brick and mortar store, but it was so lousy, I did a few problems and then recycled it), I was able to study and pass my CLEP test.

One LARGE thing of note, however, is that the tests change often, and the books often do not. So the book I studied (the one here) had useful information on things on my test. BUT, it also covered topics seen nowhere on my test. Additionally, there were entire topics on the test, that were nowhere to be found with the book.

This problem is more with the CLEP test as opposed to the book. The book was clear, consise and DEFINITELY assisted me with my math studies and passing the CLEP examination.

Despite the nuances of the book and test not covering the same thing, I still got a 73 (50 is passing).

I purchased this book to review high school mathematics after being out of high school for over 10 years. It was a wonderful way to refresh my memory. Since I have no intention of taking the CLEP exam, I cannot vouch for its effectiveness for CLEP preparation but I can honestly say that if you are unsure of your level of mathematics aptitude or require a quick review this book is excellent. However, if you are looking for in depth explanations and need to be taught these concepts for the first time, it is not suited to this purpose. It is an excellent skeletal review book.
