Editorial Reviews

Review

Canadian Journal of Anesthesia, 01-JAN-10, Udell Larsen, MD -- "This well-organized, extensive review covers topics ranging from the History of Anesthesia to Office-Based Anesthesia and everything in between. The questions are relevant, carefully thought out, and up-to-date, and each question has a corresponding comprehensive answer that includes a heading and page number directing the reader to a specific section in the parallel textbook, Clinical Anesthesia, 6th edition. This feature facilitates an extremely quick and concise reference when the reader needs further deliberation concerning the original question. This text provides an excellent review of the vast specialty of anesthesia while avoiding any esoteric information. "The book can be used predominantly as a means for residents to self-assess before undertaking a written examination. However, if properly utilized, this review textbook could be an excellent tool for anyone, from novice to expert, to identify the areas of anesthesia that need further focused study... "Overall, this is an excellent well-organized comprehensive review text that could be equally at home on the bookshelves of trainees and faculty alike."-Canadian Journal of Anesthesia --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad., November 29, 2008
This book is pretty good for testing recently read material from Barash Text or Handbook. Has old question format and a bit difficult to follow. Has pretty good question explainations... helps with learning. Would recommend Hall's book of questions " Anesthesia: A Comprehensive Review" over this text.

3.0 out of 5 stars Shallow, May 17, 2009
it's a good book and you can review topics from it, but questions are a little easy and shallow, so you can't really make an exercise for a test or a board, for example.

5.0 out of 5 stars good supplement to review for boards, December 19, 2008

This book is an good supplement to a review course and to a text in preparation for boards! Barash is an expert in the field of anesthesia and it is nice to have his text in a board prep format. The explanations for each question are great. Contrary to the other review, i don't the question format is weird or difficult at all. I also like that the chapters are short and limited to only 1 specific section with about 12 - 25 questions on each topic! I thought this book was a nice addition study efforts for boards!Good Luck!
