This is the version of the test that is currently being administered (as I write this in 2010/2011). I used this book and got a 94% on the TEAS. There are a few life science type questions that aren't in this book like fault zones and rock types, however, I think they may have eliminated most of those questions for Version 5 of the test.

The part of the TEAS test that most people have problems with is the science section. Don't expect this book to give you a condensed summary of everything that is in your chemistry, anatomy, physiology and biology books. What this book IS good for is knowing what TYPES of questions will be asked and how in depth you will need to study your science books.

Let me first say I'd rate this 2.5 stars if possible.
I've been helping prospective nursing students for admission into the nursing program for some time now. While the admissions department suggests this book, I have not seen this book provide enough help to those who really need the help.
As explained and proved below, this study guide is VERY difficult to understand, specifically in the SCIENCE area which makes up the greatest part of the test. It's almost as if the authors set you up for failure.
There are two MAJOR problems with this book: They use many "million-dollar." long words to define topics (See the proof below.) Also, they give you the absolute BARE-BONES of study material, yet the test questions presume you not only understood every word, but are able to link the facts together on your own. Even though the school at which I work GAVE me this book for free, I STILL went out and used MY OWN MONEY to buy BETTER books. After using the OTHER books, the pass rate jumped dramatically. (OTHER BOOKS + "Secrets of the TEAS V EXAM by MOMETRIX and the McGraw Hill study guide. If your school allows you to retest, ATI send out a document that shows your weaknesses BUT only gives you page #'s from THEIR OWN study guide to "help" you improve. I'd find out my weaknesses when you see your scores and then use ANOTHER book to work on these. BTW, MAKE SURE the admissions rep or whoever receives your resuts, GIVES YOU A COPY of ALL 4 or 5 pages of your results--NOT just your score page!

I opened this book to a random page and typed the first three paragraphs on to a Word document. The Flesch Reading Level was 29.9! According to Wikipedia, a score of 29.9 means it is "best understood by university graduates." Also, the F. Kincaid Grade Level was 12.9.

I would absolutely recommend picking up this book if you're taking version 5. I borrowed a version 4 book from a friend, and it just didn't cover a lot of the stuff I saw when taking the exam, and covered outdated material, such as tectonic plate movements, weather patterns, etc, none of which was on version 5.
As a side note, I would recommend waiting to take the TEAS until after you've taken anatomy, physiology and microbiology, as there were some questions on the exam that I knew only from having taken those classes.
I am SOOO glad I spent the money and bought this book. It allowed me to review areas I needed to review (like mitosis and chemistry). I started studying a month prior to taking the exam, and I got a 96%! I'm really pleased!

This book has been a great review for the actual test. It's way better than the last TEAS manual study guide! I recommend it to anyone! Buying it from Amazon was cheaper and a pleasant, quick experience!

Not that I appreciate my nursing school requiring us to spend so much money on ATI, but I really did like the way this book was set up. Aside from the typos (for which I deducted one star), this manual helped me go over all the things I forgot from taking core classes in high school and college. I studied this book for a total of 5 hours on a flight back from Florida the night before my test, and passed the TEAS with a 86%, which was more than high enough to enter into an ADN program. For all those out there who think they shouldn't need a study manual, I say try this one anyway.

Thank you, thank you for this study manual (arrived timely and new, as advertised)! I also ordered the "Secrets of the TEAS Exam Study Guide", and both are credited with helping me do very well on the test. Just tested yesterday and I ranked in the 91st/98th percentiles (nationally and program, respectively)! Practice tests are highly recommended but I only had two weeks to find time to prepare, and was only able to partially complete ONE practice test before the real thing; so I'm sure you can improve your scores with more preparation. Good luck everyone!

--p.s. I'm no 'spring chicken' and it has been MANY years since I took some of these subjects, and others not at all.

I have been out of high school for 10 years, and needed a thorough brush-up on high school math and sentence structures. Honestly, I never gave another thought to complex v. simple sentences, simplifying fractions or determining if a line in a paragraph was a supporting detail, a theme or a topic. Those were the things that made me worry the most with the TEAS.
I went through this book methodically. I chose it mainly because the company that produced the book, ATI, is also the company that made the test. It is very well organized and put together. The first section is broken down into the four main components of the test, math, science, English and reading comprehension. All of the main ideas are discussed in detail, along with practice problems. The last third of the book has two practice tests and an in-depth explanation of the correct answers.
I took the practice tests the first time without reading the book. I scored a 67% - ouch! I then spent two weeks looking through the book, marking areas I knew were problematic and making flashcards. The next go-round with the practice tests, I was up to 92%. I do not yet have my score back from my TEAS V, but I felt good coming out and am very glad I got this book.
