Excellent book for OKAP preparation,
By A Customer
This review is from: Review of Ophthalmology: A Question and Answer Book (Paperback)
This is an excellent review of the fundamentals of ophthalmology. The question content is similar to that of the pretest review book, or even just a little more complex. If you are looking for a good board review book, this is certainly one you will want. Several questions off of the okap were exactly the same as in this book. This book is definately more in depth than a non ophthalmologist would want to go.

Very good review book,

This book has hundreds of questions, conveniently divided into roughly the same sections as the BRS series. The answers are well explained, although the quality of the black and white photos is suboptimal.

The Best Review Book for OKAPS,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Review Questions in Ophthalmology: A Question and Answer Book (Paperback)
If you study the Ophthalmology Review Manual and work the questions in this book, you will do well on OKAPS. The questions in this book are superb. They really hit the highlights on very important topics. I would supplement the optics, and would supplement the pathology sections (as would be expected).
I recently bough the Mass Eye and Ear Review Manual and it is good too. It has more questions, but the questions are not as good overall. There is a lot more minutia in the Mass Eye and Ear question book. The Chern book you will get the most bang for your buck, hands down.

Same as older edition,

If you have the older edition, do not buy this update. It is the exact same, except for the cover.

The best question and answer book for the OKAP and ABO boards,
By An ophthalmologist (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Review of Ophthalmology: A Question and Answer Book (Paperback)
I have a ton of ophthalmology Q + A books including Mass Eye and Ear, ProVision, Ophtho Pearls. But the Chern book is the closest to the actual OKAP and ABO board questions. A must-have for any ophthalmology resident.

I used this book and Mass Eye and Ear for OKAPs and found them very useful. Particularly the new edition has more pictures including colorful images and the content is more updated to reflect changes in knowledge.
The plastics section is nice as there are several CT scan. The cornea section has several color slides that are useful for oral board review too. The questions in this book are not as difficult as Mass Eye + Ear but the explanations are better and the book is designed to enhance the learning experience. Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone studying for OKAPs or boards. A must have!

Probably the best Q&A book to prepare for boards/OKAPS,
By
This review is from: Review Questions in Ophthalmology: A Question and Answer Book (Paperback)
The questions in this book look very much like the questions in the BCSC series and the OKAPs, which are supposed to look like the boards. Do well on these questions and you should do well on your standardized exams in Ophthalmology. I was dissapointed that many fundus photos were presented in back and white, and not in color as the Chern review manual shows them, but if you can recognize the diseases by clinical presentation and a B&W photo, then you are sure to nail the diagnosis in clinic. I think that this is the most relevant Q&A book available, and it is also one of the most recently updated.

Good Review Book,

Overall a nice supplement for the boards - it seems to have enough variety and not come straight from the Chern review book. Pictures are decent - not all in color yet. Gives nice explanatations to answers.

Riddled with typos and errors,
By
This review is from: Review Questions in Ophthalmology: A Question and Answer Book (Paperback)
The content of this book is an excellent sample of the material on the boards and the OKAPS. HOWEVER, look out for SEVERAL DOZEN critical typos and poorly constructed questions. Just some examples: Question 100 in the retina quiz: the answer is clearly B but the book has a typo as D. Question 38 in the neuro-op quiz: either answer B or C would be correct, since Eaton-Lambert syndrome is a presynaptic disorder that affects the axon terminal (and not only the synapse). Answer to question 68 in the neuro-op quiz: irrigating the "left ear" suddently becomes irrigating the "left eye". The list goes on and on. One is left with the distinct impression that the authors slapped this book together in a hurry. I hope they pay more attention in a future edition.

Review Questions in Ophthalmology: A Question and Answer Book,
This review is from: Review Questions in Ophthalmology: A Question and Answer Book (Paperback)
This question book used to be the standard one that every Ophthalmology resident and/or fellow bought to prepare for his or her OKAPs and Written Board examinations. Though not bad, the questions are somewhat outdated and there are many typos littered throughout the book. I prefer to use online questions "books" such as ophthoquestions.com and occasionally even the AAO's ProVision service. I just don't think this book is worth $100 anymore.
