This book was written to help you prepare for the LPN pre-entrance exam, and is divided into Math, Vocabulary, and Science sections. There are plenty of practice questions for each section as well as 3 complete practice tests. Answers are explained. The reviews are very basic and assume you already have a strong background in Math/Science. You may have to supplement the review with other material, as I did, say, for Biology.

Shortcomings:
(1) Many practice questions cover material not reviewed by the book, which was annoying.

(2) There are errors in some of the answers given for the practice questions. For example, the definition and explanation of wave amplitude was factually incorrect. So was the definition of a coverslip.

Good points:
(1) You get to try and answer a wide variety of questions on math and the sciences of Chemisty, Biology, and Physics.

(2) The book gives you somewhat of a guage by which to tell which topics you may need further materials for review.

Bottom line: the book is better than nothing, but if you are thinking of buying one, get a "used" copy and save yourself a few bucks.

Just recently decided to change careers and go to nursing school. I haven't been in school for over 10 years and decided to start out with the LPN program (instead of RN) in order to give myself a better foundation since I've never worked in the healthcare industry.
When I found out the topics covered on the LPN pre-entrance exam I freaked out because I had completely forgotten my basic math and science skills, so I decided to buy a review guide.
This is the only book I bought, I read through the review sections several times (verbal once, math twice and science several times) and did all the practice tests. When I got answers wrong on the math sections I went back and practiced those skills some more. When I got answers wrong on the science sections I read the review section again and/or looked up relevant information about the topic online.
I studied about 3 hours a day for about 1 week and just took the exam last night. I found many of the questions quite tricky and the time constraint made me extremely nervous, but I passed. My final score was in the 97th percentile, which is actually much, much better than I expected to receive. I know that if I'd studied the science section a little more thoroughly I would have gotten at least 8 more of the test questions correct since I later found the answers right there in the science review section of the book. Granted, the book does not cover EVERYTHING you will need to know in the science section, but it can't. Some questions you will need to use common sense on and others you will either know or you won't. The book gives you some sample questions regarding basic first aid and health that you should definitely expand on (like I did online).
The bottom line is: I can guarantee you that without this book I would have SURELY failed...no doubt about it, I would have failed miserably! Thank goodness this book was available.

This study guide was excellent. The math and algebra preparation was especially useful. The practice tests in the study guide prepared me to take and pass the LPN entrance exam. It would highly recommend this text book to anyone who plans to take any LPN/LVN entrance exam. I purchased three study guides. The LPN/LVN entrance exam prep was the best of the three.

It is a helpfull book that provide all the information that a student need to remember many aspects of knowledge in a easy way, and guide the student to succeed in the entrance exams

I would reccomend this book to all future lpn students. i struggled with math, and was never able to pass the lpn math section. i purchased this book, along with basic math and pre algebra for dummies. i reccomend buying both books. while i liked the lpn book for the many tests in the math section, it was still worded in a way that was beyond my math level. i referred back to the basic math for dummies book to teach me the math...and the lpn book for the test prep. i studied for 2 months and passed the exam my first try! prior to buying these books i failed the math atleast 4 times in the last ten yrs. dont let the math hold u back from your dreams!!!
