Review for the CLEP Social Science and History Examination

This review is for those of us that had/have little or no background in the subject area, but need to pass the clep.

This book is an excellent start. It covers a wide array of material and the sample tests are appropriate to the type
of material on the real Clep. However, If you do not already
have a background in the subject area, this book is not enough.

In order to pass the clep, you should use four books.

1. This book
2. Cracking the Clep
3. The Best Test Preparation for the Clep (R.E.A.)
4. The Best Review for the Clep (R.E.A.)

All of these books together cover enough material and expose you to enough various concepts, that you should be more than prepared to pass the Clep.

While none of the Clep books contained any actual test questions, the concepts covered in the materials definately were on the test. This book was an enormous help.

ps. I passed the the test in the 98th percentile with an hour
and 18 minutes still left on the clock.

I used this book solely as a review for the CLEP exam, and received a score of 55 (barely passing) as opposed to the actual CLEP books - I got a 96 using the "official CLEP guide".

This book barely has any of the actual test material included in it, and the test had many, many things not even remotely touched upon in the book. I definitely will NOT use this brand again.

This book is NOT enough to pass the CLEP. It IS easy to read and does provide much knowledge. HOWEVER, I would have failed had I relied solely on this book. I also used Peterson's CLEP Success which helped me pass the exam much more than this book. I would suggest using them both.

I studied this review exclusively and passed after about 2 weeks worth of effort. I had also taken sociology and psychology prior to taking the exam, so this helped me concentrate on the history part, which wasn't exactly what I expected, but if you have a good general knowledge of history you should know most of the answers. I rated 4/5 because I recommend this book to CLEP takers if you want to pass, but if you want to get a perfect score you are going to need outside sources.

I urge all of you to use this study guide in addition to other history and social science study materials. The book does cover a lot of the exam material but this exam is worth 6 credits and you want to be prepared as possible. I scored a 61, but that was with a lot of studying.

I no longer have the CLEP! Great book great resource helped me to pass. Some CLEP books do not give an accurate sampling of the content you will find on the test. This one was useful because the questions were very similar to those that are on the test.

I used this book in addition to another study guide (mostly the other one actually) to do well on the test. This book is easy to understand and read, but alone it's probably not enough information. It gives you a good general idea, but you need to know more than just that for the test.

This book does a great survey of all the tested subject areas. You will not get an 80, but the goal is merely to pass, which is what one must remember. I got a 65 this morning and studied only this book for 1 week. Use this book, your common sense, and general knowledge and you'll be just fine.

This book gave me a general idea of what would be on the CLEP test, but when I actually took the test, the exam questions were MUCH harder then the review questions in the book. I passed, but would not recommend using this book alone!
