Linda Hoyt Does It Again,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Revisit, Reflect, Retell: Time-Tested Strategies for Teaching Reading Comprehension (Paperback)
I own the first edition of Revisit, Reflect, Retell and I didn't think the new version would offer anything new. I was wrong. Linda has formatted the book so that a teacher can glance quickly to see how a suggested strategy might be used. The visuals, graphic organizers, and blackline masters are wonderful. The CD is a helpful tool. I absolutely love the new version.

One of the BEST books a teacher could ever purchase. Are you looking for student engagement, fresh ideas and effective strategies? Then this is the book to buy. Linda Hoyt does an amazing job.
Love the DVD included with the book. She models two of the strategies from the book. I would have given it 5 stars, but think there should have been more strategies in the DVD.

Great!!!,
This review is from: Revisit, Reflect, Retell: Time-Tested Strategies for Teaching Reading Comprehension (Paperback)
So useful!! It's not just theories and suggestions, but ideas and worksheets that can be applied and used in the classroom. I'm doing a pre-prac now and bringing it into the teacher so she can use it, too!

Some "new editions" disappoint me, but this update to Linda Hoyt's Revist, Reflect, Retell is WONDERFUL! I was instantly reminded of how powerful this book was to me as a young teacher and reenergized by the fresh ideas. I've used these activities with young students through adult learners. If you already own Revisit, Reflect, Retell share the old version with someone unfamiliar with Hoyt's ideas and buy this one for yourself. It's worth every penny.

This book has so many practical ideas and lessons for reading and comprehension. The CD allows you to easily print and modify the black line masters and the DVD gives a great demo of how to present the lessons. Suitable for all primary grades. I am especially interested in engaging student experiencing difficulties in reading and these lessons incorporate ideas on how to bring out the best in all abilities.

Instant, Tangible, Ready To Go,
This review is from: Revisit, Reflect, Retell: Time-Tested Strategies for Teaching Reading Comprehension (Paperback)
That's what I'm looking for at any staff development meeting. First, I start with my positive affirmations. I tell myself that despite the boredom and though it's true that I could be of better use with my class at that moment, I am getting paid. People get paid a lot less for a lot worse. Then, I start the hunt. What is the tangible idea that I will walk away with and try in my room tomorrow? I remember the training when each of us received a copy of this book. It was the best staff development I had ever attended. I use so many of these ideas over and over. I use them in small group reading instruction, with the books I read aloud to my class. I use them in social studies and science. Whatever I am teaching, I try to be mindful of the fact that I am always teaching language arts. I am always teaching kids how to use those captions and pictures and headings. We are not just learning about westward expansion. We are learning how to negotiate our way through textbooks, which is a set of skills all its own. This book allows me to turn so many lessons into excellent language arts lessons that push kids towards critical thinking. I give this book to new teachers as gifts. You should really treat yourself.

If you would like to engage students in reading and be assured that they understand what they read then this book is for you. The range of strategies to use is extensive and the black line masters save time. The set out of the book makes it easy to navigate, a great resource.
