5.0 out of 5 stars Parameters in Revit Families
I hope you enjoy the book, and recieve benefit from reading it. There are many things that are not readily obvious in creating a Family and this book does go into depth exploring the various parameters you can add to increase the functionality of a Family.

The introduction begins, "Welcome to the smallest and cheapest Revit Book on the Market!". It is indeed the cheapest, and for good reason. It appears incomplete in it's current state.

5.0 out of 5 stars Parameters in Revit Families, December 11, 2009
This review is from: Revit Family Creation 2010: Revit Parameter Power (Paperback)
I hope you enjoy the book, and recieve benefit from reading it. There are many things that are not readily obvious in creating a Family and this book does go into depth exploring the various parameters you can add to increase the functionality of a Family.

I cover the new 2010 Revit Family Editor Interface,Family Categories, Hierarchy of Families, 2D - Symbolic Lines Family Templates, Annotation Families, Symbol Families, Solid Extrusions, Sweeps, Blends, Swept Blends, Solid Revolves, Voids, Using the Parameters Reference Planes, Dimension Parameters, Nested Families, Work Plane-based Family, Material Definitions, Profiles, Flip Controls, Cut Planes, Subcategories, Visibility, Fine Medium and Course Views, Formulas, Importing Content, Flexing the Model, Revision Parameters, arrays and suggestions for naming the Family.

I delibrately kept the price of this book cheap, because educating is one of my passions and you should not have to skip lunch to gain extra training materials. There will be people trying to blast this work however for the information this book provides I personaly feel it to be a bargain and the cheapest Revit book on the Market.

The book does contain a lot of screen shots. This is to assist your understanding of the process. Most of us are new to using the Ribbon Toolbar in 2010 and as one of my hobbies is video editing, I learn in a very visual way, and expect most people do also. My day job is instructing 5 offices in the most efficient use of the AutoCad products, and I create a lot of training material. My experience is people normaly benefit the most from the visual screenshots when learning a new product.

The font used in the book is 12 point. This was for my benefit as I do have some vision problems. Too much time in front of the keyboard and reading.

Thanks for reading

Ken Jolly

This review is from: Revit Family Creation 2010: Revit Parameter Power (Paperback)
The introduction begins, "Welcome to the smallest and cheapest Revit Book on the Market!". It is indeed the cheapest, and for good reason. It appears incomplete in it's current state.

Instead of a step by step guide, as the back cover suggests, it is more of compliation of screen captures with large type explaining features of the on screen menu. I was expecting "best practices" and "know how" with directions for "how-to", but was disappointed.

Of 139 pages, approximately 100 are of screen captures.

Few things of note, as a heads up:

-There is no section regarding shared parameters. (If there was I wouldn't follow this guy's example based upon the information provided in the rest of the book).

-This book only covers Revit Architecture (incompletely I might add), and does not cover any Structure or MEP specific family content development best practices of features.

-The book is in 20 point type with mostly useless screen captures taking up most pages (not much actual meat to this book).

-I also purchased the below item, which was a huge contrast to this book. I suggest you take a look at the link below instead of this item.

-Revit 2010 - Family Standards and Best Practices

very disappointed.
difficult to follow the steps in the book.
large-print text and screen-shots result in very few content for this book.
people may easily find the same in tutorials provided by autodesk, for free. also, if you follow some other things you could find for free, you would not be confused.
