Do not exceed the feed limit!, May 20, 2006
This review is from: Revitalize Your Life (Paperback)
Jack LaLanne is an inspiration to people everywhere. Here is a man that was preaching the benefits of eating natural foods and lifting weights long before it was accepted by the mainstream. In fact, people called him a nut and made fun of him when he first started proclaiming the health benefits of such practices.
A lot of people know the Jack LaLanne story but I'll recap it in a nutshell. Jack was a self-called sugarholic at age 15 when he attended a health lecture with his mother. This lecture had a profound impact on Jack. It convinced him he could be born again if he would just change his eating habits and start taking care of his body by exercising. Within days his headaches were gone, he felt more alive, and has been working out ever since. The rest as they say is history. Today Jack is over 90 years old, still working out, and looks far younger than he is in actuality.
This book is the culmination of 65 years of knowledge gained by Jack himself through experiment and research. In the book he gives several guidelines for maintaining quality of life, health, and vitality. Some of those guidelines are: don't exceed the feed limit, use your body or get old from inactivity, and set positive goals for yourself that are realistic. He also offers advice on such matters as grooming, having pride and discipline in whatever you do, and keeping a positive mental outlook.
This book would be great for older people because Jack gives several illustrations of simple exercises that can be done by people of age. Most of the exercises involve little or no equipment but will definitely give people results if they stick to them. I should also qualify the previous statement about older people because according to Jack you are only as old as you feel. He cites scientific studies showing a big factor in making people age is simply inactivity of the body.
Later on in the book Jack discusses his belief in the importance of vitamins and minerals. He personally thinks they are a great supplement to your diet and gives a little information about them.
Personally I enjoyed this book because Jack gives you the idea that you can do anything. People don't realize the difference they are capable of feeling in their mood, outlook, and energy, just by working out a little each week and learning to eat properly. By the time you've finished reading this book you'll realize the insidious nature of sugar, fat, and the current fast food diets. It's an amazing testament to the human body that more people do not die prematurely due to neglect.
Anyway, I feel anyone reading this book will come away with a refreshed and motivated attitude that will have them up and working out in no time at all. Take control of your life by taking control of your health now before it's too late.

Great book from the expert, August 6, 2006
This review is from: Revitalize Your Life (Paperback)
Who better to write a health and fitness book than Jack Lalanne--a man in his 90s who practiced what he has preached for years. His is probably the most reputable advice considering his longevity. The book was an enjoyable and informative read.

Go Jack!, January 25, 2008
This review is from: Revitalize Your Life (Paperback)
Jack LaLanne has been my inspiration since I was a kid, for keeping fit. This book has great pictures that you can flag the pages and do these at your work desk. At work, I displayed a page a day as "Today's Exercise", and people stopped and looked and even practiced the exercises. This makes people laugh, too, which is probably the greatest and best exercise!
I really like what he wrote, in addition to the graphics on how to do each exercise. For example: "...the food you eat today is walking and talking tomorrow."
We can't leave his wife out of it either!! Elaine LaLanne was also in the demonstration photos.
This is a book that makes exercise fun, and the writing lifts your spirits too!
