I really enjoyed reading this book. Edwards does a great job of walking the reader through the theology of revival. He frames the work around the story of Hezekiah and then relates revivals throughout history to the truths he pulls out of the biblical account. The range of revival themes is completely thorough, no stone is left unturned. It's one of those books that is filled with classic quote after quote from revival men of old and genuine account after account. Great resource to pull gems of insight and wisdom from (if you've read The Hidden Life of Prayer you'll know what I mean). The two chapters, An Experience of God and Holiness of Life, were alone worth the price of the book. At the end of his study, Edwards also includes personal accounts of 5 revivals he had the privilege of witnessing.

All in all, very solid intro book to revival and worthy addition to anyone's library. It will ignite a fresh passion to see God move in your life, the Church, and the world.

For someone to go to painstaking methods (before internet) to research revivals, you may find surprising times when God stepped down. Brian Edwards go into many times and I have re-read three times! Finding Scriptures will either scare the reader into throwing away said book or rethink.who God is and their relationship. If we truly revival, read and reevaluate. It is sorely needed today, more in the church than the world.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. Although the first have took me quite awhile to wade through, the second half was quickly "absorbed" while stimulating much Godward thought.
