Classic 'revival history' book,
By Tom (scotgar @ hotmail.com) (Scotland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Revival Fire (Paperback)
Wesley Duewel has certainly done us a favour with the publication of this book. Written in a very readable style, it held my attention from start to finish, and that's a full 350+ pages worth! He gives more than a glimpse of a great many spiritual awakenings right through the centuries. Many are well-known stories, others less so; but all are absorbing and detailed accounts of fascinating moves of God's Spirit. An essential study for anyone interested in revivals. I loved it and continue to use it for reference.

Outstanding insight on the history and future of revival. Well documented research written in an exciting manner. It is one of those "I can't put it down" books. One of the best books on revival.

I had never heard of this book until Doc. Billye Brim mentioned it on a Christian program I was watching and I am glad she did. If you want to be inspired to pray for our nation, then you must get this book! It covers a lot of revivals in places that, until I read this book, did not know had had revivals. By the time you get to the end if you do not feel like hitting your knees and praying for our ailing nation, then you need to get saved!

I would recommend this book to everyone. It is so good to learn of past revivals in our world. It makes you hopeful that revival will come again to America. It is happening in other countries, and God is no respecter of persons. I pray that we will see revival come soon and spread all across the United States of American as well as all the world.

Great Revival that is need for world today,
By
This review is from: Revival Fire (Paperback)
When I look and see what is happing in our churches and the world today, I begin to wonder if the power of the Holy Spirit have left. The moral fiber of our socity have gone, we now live a society that seem to accept any and everything, "everything we act and do is okay". We need a renewing of the Revival Fire now, to quench the turmoil that is effecting our world. The churchs need to clean their act so that the Revival Fire can return in full force before Jesus return.

Wonderful Faith Builder and gives Glory to God,
This review is from: Revival Fire (Paperback)
This is an excellent book for anyone who wants to believe God for greater things on this earth. It tells of the powerful moves of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is coming back soon and it is imperative the all His followers move in the gifts of the Holy Spirit that He ended us to have to be victorious on the earth and help win more souls for His Kingdom. It is also a reminder to the extreme need for a quality prayer life. God said His house will be called a house of prayer, and far too many believers avoid prayer, or have minimal prayer in the church. No one wants to hear Jesus say "away from Me I never knew you", and prayer is one of the best ways to get to know the LORD once you receive Him as Lord and Savior and decide to follow and obey Him. This book is increasing my faith by leaps and bounds, and it is also an interesting historical read.

Very limited in scope,

While there are quite a few instances of revival recounted in this book, it appears to include only certain "approved" accounts of revival which have been sanitized for your protection. George Whitefield and Charles Finney are there, of course, along with many others throughout the world up to recent times. Interestingly enough, there is no mention of the Azusa street revival, or any of leaders of the healing revival in the 1940's. Even the account of the revival in Andrew Murray's church neglects to mention that the outburst of prayer happened to be praying in tongues... it would certainly seem as though this book's author does not approve of THAT kind of revival. There are some good revival stories in this book, but the limited definition of revival makes it very redundant and after a while, the stories becoming boring in their similarity.
