This issue documents the revival, at The Juilliard School in 1989, of the original version of Nijinsky's "L'Apres-midi d'un Faune". The Labanotation for this work was transcribed from Nijinsky's own notation by Dr Ann Hutchinson Guest and Dr Claudia Jeschke. This revealed a ballet substantially different from the versions currently in repertory. Nijinsky's ballet has been restaged many times since its premiere in 1912, but no production has proceeded along the lines described here. This particular revival relied primarily on the evidence of written dance history techniques in dance pedagogy and staging. A videotape is included showing two performances of The Juilliard School production. The first shows the ballet in long-shot while the second view is in close-up giving more detail of individual characters.
