5.0 out of 5 stars "Found" Art
I came upon this purely by chance. I thought of a guy's name. "John Smith." . Straight out of the air. One thought led to another, which led me to this album on Rhapsody. I listened. I liked. Sweet synchronicity? Or new path towards the white, back buckled jacket and a nice, padded room? You be the judge!

3.0 out of 5 stars More than just Beautiful Day
Sorry I just had to laugh at all the people that only bought this album for Beautiful Day and thought the rest of the album was just like it. It's nothing to do with the album not being very good it's just that 3CR are a punk/metal/rock band and you didnt know it. So leave them alone. PS. I thought the album itself was uninspiring and it didn't reach the heights I...

I just like the wall of sound, the biting lyrics and the heavy dissonant effect of these full frontal assault tunes. Makes U2 sound platitudinous, in contrast. Fresh, lively, vivid stuff here.

"Calling to the Outside" is probably the signature song. Relentless rock. a la The Cure.

In fact, if I were to compare this band it would be half Cure/ half Sonic Youth. If you can fathom up that amalgam, you can probably talk yourself into at least listening to the Amazon samples of this group. I'd suggest listening to and purchasing the whole CD though. The more I listen, the more I'm convinced these guys might actually be rock stars!

Edited to mention that this is the best new rock band I've listened to in the past ten years. These dudes SLUG! Please, anyone who reads or mildly peruses my reviews, do check this band out!!

Beatles calibre? Pretty damned close!

5.0 out of 5 stars Different from pure, but still as good, October 14, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Revolt (Audio CD)
Great album. If your expecting the same punk-rock as the amazing Pure, then your expectations are wrong. Instead you get strong guitar ryths, along with great vocals. If your aq metal-rock fan, this is for you. Opening with the classic, Paralyse, a song of pure metal brilliance, the album goes on from there. The only weak point, in my opinion, is the single ' beutiful day', which just does not seem like 3 Colours Red. Apart from that, Paranoid People and Be Myself are the finest songs 3 Colours Red have Done. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Pure but still good, October 31, 2000
This review is from: Revolt (Audio CD)
More inspired by heavy metal than the punk riot of their debut Pure, this album's core sound is exemplified by the awesome Paralyse, chugging guitar riffs punding with a rollicking vocal there too. Calling To the Outside and Age Of Madness may be the sprightliest things here, the former featuring a fantastic momentary pause before the chorus, where you can feel the life being sucked in and prepared for unleashal. Not all the tracks are of the same calibre. Other than Beautiful Day, and Pirouette's melodic pop-rock to an extent, the slow songs fail to reach the same standards, and things like Song On the radio and Be Myself are basically inferior replications fo the likes of AC/DC and Iron Maiden.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast, aggressive 2-guitar hard rock, April 23, 2000
This review is from: Revolt (Audio CD)
(It's actually more like 4.5.) 3CR is a NWOBHMish band led by ex-Diamond Head bassist Pete Vuckovic. The music is fast and loud, driven by Chris McCormack & Ben Harding's aggressive guitar riffs and Pete Vuckovic's angry shouting. While this band gets classifiend in the same category as "punk" bands like The Offspring or Green Day, they're actually (IMNSHO) a "power metal" band like Diamond Head, Iron Maiden, Accept, Metallica, etc. The songs on this album are all good, but the best ones are "Paralyse," "Intermission," & "Calling to the Outside."

5.0 out of 5 stars contender for best album of the year, September 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Revolt (Audio CD)
This is the UK's second best band, right behind Terrorvision, and they don't have a bad song on either of their 2 albums. Revolt has it all, soft melodic gut wrenchers like "this is my time" and the achingly beautiful "Beautiful Day" to the punk riotness of "Age Of Madness" and "Paralyse". My favorite album of the year.

4.0 out of 5 stars Early candidate for album of the year., May 5, 1999

Essentially what you have here; is another in a long cavalcade of superb British rock bands (Manics, The Wildharts, Terrorvision, Feeder ect). Bands, that have tried, but failed at carving out a considerably large chunk of commercial landscape in the States for themselves. 3 Colours Red don't exactly turn the banal into the sublime on "Revolt"; with the basic Guitars, Bass, and Drums/Percussion setup. What they do accomplish here is some occationally pensive songs, with, more often than not, soaring choruses juxtaposed. Totally slaughtering more than half of the unremarkable, vacant, self-lobotomizing, subhuman dreck polluting MTV and popular radio as we speak in every category. So, you won't find "Pretty fly for a White Guy" or any other severely mentally retarded tracks here. Faves are: "calling out to the outside and "pirouette." A stark contrast to most of the guitar driven stuff today, in intelligence and dynamics. That's the main reason why it won't appeal to the superficial American audience that will dub it "Brit Pop."

5.0 out of 5 stars "If you need Mr. Macormack you need this alblum!", May 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Revolt (Audio CD)
Since the Manics have degenrerated since Richey's disapearance, and Nicky thinks he is Richey the second without the brain, a punk band has been much sought for. 3 colours red has filled this void, with the endless talent of Chris Macormack and the supberb voice of Pete. This album is not to be discharged if you are a serious hard core punk fan.
