Jose Conde Is a Certifiable Genius,

Very rarely someone comes along who is unafraid of convention and not constrained by fitting into a predigested commercial category. Jose is one of those people. He maintains strong roots to the Afro-Cuban tradicion of which he is a living exponent while at the same time he is fusing elements of the entire Afro-Antillean culture into his output. Whether you love the simmering funkiness of The Meters, Zigaboo Modeliste is on here or the big band of Beny More, his late musical director Generoso "Tojo" Jimenez also plays a beautiful descarga with trombone titan Jimmy Bosch you will discover so much sabor y sentimiento here that you will love and revisit for years to come.

Jose is fuera de este mundo. I highly recommend this record. Also try El Chacal, on Cafe Cubano, Putumayo Records. I wish I was closer to NYC to see him live.
