Vinyl package still appealing,
By Phil S. (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Revolution of the Mind (Vinyl)
I found that the CD sound has better fidelity but both mediums feature a badly mixed, badly programmed set.
If you want to listen with a better sense of the real show(s), play side 2 first! It was the very first song from the first show of the week, in July, 1971, at the Apollo. It appears that the original *first* show intro. is deleted. The bass, drums, congas, and rhythm guitar are very low; horns ok; lead vocal, right up front. Side three really begins after a throw-away "Try Me": the "Fast Medley" leading into "Give It Up Or Turnit A Loose", "Super Bad", and "Get Up, Get Into It, Get Involved" passage might never be equalled on record (or live) for driving intensity - the versions leave the 45 rpms in the dust. By Side four with "Soul Power" and "Hot Pants" you know this one was going over the top - for Adults only, in all seriousness. |
