A great live album,

This review is from: Revolution Of The Mind( Live At The Apollo, Vol. III) (Audio CD)
This may be my favorite live album from back when vinyl albums ruled the day. There are certainly a handful of live albums which capture the spirit of THE place to be (like Aretha at the Filmore, among others). Back in the day, just about every night at the Apollo was the place to be. This was never more true than when James was in the House, without a doubt. This album just whets the appetite for more of the Godfather of Soul. His J.B. Fast Medley (almost a redundancy considering his work) is a phenom. This has a lot of his late 60's, early 70's classics, like Super Bad, Hot Pants, Sex Machine, Get Involved, and a handful of others that make you just want to move. The crowd screaming, clapping and singing along (actually, more like yelling, considering who has the lead) helps generate some of the excitement that seeing J.B. live holds. Be forewarned though, there is NOTHING like seeing J.B. live. No live album can do him the true justice. Better appreciated, I think, by those who have some familiarity with the studio cuts. Still no doubt great stuff.

Any fan of the funk must have this recording! It is a classic live album by one of the funkiest bands ever. This was done at the mecca of soul music at the epitome of his career. Twenty years later, it is still amazing. I have been looking for this recording on cd for years and it is now available. This is my all-time favorite James Brown album.
