Editorial Reviews

2013 sophomore album from the Hard Rock supergroup featuring Rex Brown (Pantera, Down), Vinny Appice (Dio, Black Sabbath), Mark Zavon and Dewey Bragg (Pissing Razors). Kill Devil Hill are a powerhouse of a band who have delivered a very strong album featuring impactful songs and will be a musical force to be reckoned with for years to come.

A great new album to add to any metal/rock fans collection ! This album has it all man, great vocals in any fashion(clean, melodic, screaming, etc.) The singer Dewey Bragg really has a great sounding voice, when i first hear the band i did not know if i knew who he was or if i'd dig the vocals for the music. You know how some bands have great music and the singer comes in and sorta taints the sound ? Well this isn't the case this guy is good point blank. Rex Brown and his bass really shine on this album i can hear the bassline nice and heavy, its nice and audible. I like the drumming in the album its really some intricate drum work throughout and with Vinny Appice on drums we know what well get...a damn good drummer. Now on to the guitar work, there is a track with Zakk Wylde(the first track No Way Out) but the guitar player for the band Mark Zavon,i really don't know much about him either but what i can say is on the albums from Kill Devil Hill he is great. I really like the guitar work on this album alot,it's got its crushing thrashy sounds and it's got some sounds of apocolyptic chaos through it. I really should not use another bands name in the review but ive heard people say its got an Alice In Chains vibe in the way the vox are projected, but i also see it in the guitar work and the drumming(song:Wake Up The Dead) proves my point. Overall it's a 5 star for me cuz it is just a perfect album all the way around. I had my top 3 albums for the year already stated. #1 Phil Anselmo & The Illegals-Walk Through Exits Only #2 Corrections House-Last City Zero #3 Black Sabbath-13 (But that is just my opinion for my collection for albums for the year 2013) But this album is now made my albums a top 4 for 2013. My favorite tracks?Read more ›

This album is easily the best one of the year. As a guitarist I never paid much attention to the drums in most bands but Appice is so freaking awesome he steals the show on almost every tune. The bass lines are exactly what you'd expect out of a legend like Rex Brown. I can not say enough about how excellent this album and it's predecessor are. I had them on a continual loop for weeks after buying each of them. If you like old Black Sabbath, Heaven and Hell, Dio, Alice in Chains, etc. then this band is what you are looking for.

When I first heard their first release,I was impressed because for me it was a breath of fresh air.A fresh air that i havent breathed since Dio era Sabbath with perhaps a touch of Alice in Chains in the mix...But make no mistake about it KDH has their own style altogether and with Revolution Rise they solidify their sound and reputation and nail it with a record,in my opinion,is better than their first release both musically and lyrically.Dewey Bragg has a haunting but yet catchy vocal style beautifully layered during choruses. His delivery is aggressive and passionate.Mark Zavon is the centerpiece with his great riffs and tasteful well placed solos, from thick doom heavy riffs to some sludge to clean blusey esque sadness(hidden track). The legendary rythym section between metal drum god Vinny Appice and bass master Rex Brown that round out this quartet. From no way out(which has Zakk Wylde shredding out an agressive solo as only he can do)to the uptempo crown of thorns the album starts with an uptempo fury and then comes an another uptempo with a more emotional sound(great solo also)with leave it all behind."Why" is a mid paced rocker and leads to the slow and heavy "wake up the dead" which illustrates good songwriting all around one of my faves.Long way from home is another slower haunting offering and is followed by the aggressive dark "where angels roam".Then the heavy album slows down with a slower/mid tempo number that has tribal drumming and slow heavy riffs that create a mood not seen on any kdh album.Read more ›

There is a depth to this record that is just amazing. Very much it's own animal and stronger than most EVERYTHING else. After about the 3rd spin I found I was hooked. 2 months later, I still listen to it DAILY!! The vocals (and lyrics) are just phenomenal. The band is just TOP NOTCH and plays GREAT. There isn't ONE thing I'd change, this CD has it ALL. Thinking about it? Then don't waste anymore time!!!

All I have to say is " REX BROWN "
When you take a legend like him and put the bass in his hand you have a killer band.
