Revolution in Warfare? Air Power in the Persian Gulf,
By Tech Student (Rapid City, SD USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Revolution in Warfare?: Air Power in the Persian Gulf (Hardcover)
The DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM campaigns are widely touted as the defining moments of the development in air power; the results exemplified the lessons laid down by the prime architect of US air power, Gen. Henry H. 'Hap' Arnold. Every lesson ever learned was condensed and incorporated into these two tremendous efforts. "Revolution in Warfare?" details the incredible efforts planners made to send hundreds of aircraft into a combat zone to destroy the massive and highly complex Iraqi military - all from the air. Phased targeting strategies, sortie rates, target lists, kill rates, munitions expenditures, counter-SCUD ops, enemy chokepoints, and support efforts - all the chronological and statistical information needed to comprehend the complexity and sheer magnitude described as the largest aerial campaign ever assembled. A great read - especially for those of us who were there loading the weapons - and never realized the extent to which Gen. 'Chuck' Horner's planners went to conserve and protect the lives of all aviators.
