Music was his destiny from the moment Michael Powers entered the world in 1952 in Bayonne, New Jersey. His father, James B. Murchison, was a merchant marine who sailed around the world before settling in Bayonne where he opened a local shop. Mr. Murchison divided his time between New Jersey and North Carolina working on tobacco fields in the summers. From early on, Michael would be familiar ... Read more in Amazon's Michael Powers Store

Editorial Reviews

New York-based guitarist/singer Michael Powers new release presents his eclectic choices of classic
blues covers and hard-rocking originals, cutting across blues, classic rock, and Americana genres. Blues guitarist-singer Michael Powers learned his
chops from Jimmy Reed, and toured with the James
Cotton Band while still in his teens.
When not touring blues and rock festivals, the Michael
Powers Frequency Band plays twice weekly at Terra
Blues, New York s leading blues club on legendary
Bleecker Street.
Michael is accompanied by two of his regular bands,
The MP Frequency Band and the Mana o Trio, plus a
stellar cast of featured guests and sidemen including
pianists Henry Butler and John Colianni, pianist of
the Les Paul Trio.

I have heard Revolutionary Boogie live at Terra Blues in NYC. Michael Powers is a most amazing musician and composer. He is versatile and and unbelievable to watch and listen to. Revolutionary Boogie, Prodigal Son, Bluesiana (I own a signed copy)...any of his music...just stares you down and melts straight into your soul. I am a fan for life!

This Blues, Classic Rock, Gypsy man plays the most versatile guitar I've ever heard - and NOT trading off playing and then singing - but, playing bass, lead & rhythm AND singing simultaneously & WOW WHAT A VOICE - not a lot of effects & pedals - just raw talent. Found his website where I ordered an unreleased CD "Bluesiana Breeze 3 Decades", all originals, ambient, some LIVE band stuff too, but an unbelievably completely different genre than his 3 CD's Revolutionary Boogie, Prodigal Son or Onyx Root - each of these 50% originals and each of these FANTASTIC! Found also on the website a solo DVD titled "4 Guitars 7 Originals" where Michael Powers performs solo & as titled. He is so in tune with his skill in any genre he covers or composes in. I've never heard such a unique performer limited to the category "Blues", but if so, how did the Blues Music Awards & Grammy's miss this? All I can say is A M A Z I N G and R E F R E S H I N G!
Note: There is a different Michael Powers in Seattle USA of the Jazz genre - not the same guy - their songs get lumped together on sites like this - just check the photo.
