This review is from: Revolutionary Sites of Greater Boston (NE Landmarks) (Hardcover)
A book especially powerful for Massachusetts readers, Revolutionary Sites of Greater Boston explores the role Boston and the surrounding towns played in the American Revolution. Opening with a discussion of the events of the 1760's that lead to the colonies severing ties with England and continuing through to the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and John Adams's writing of the Massachusetts Constitution in 1779, the book does an exceptional job of showing the importance of Boston during the Revolution. It dances back and forth between crisp, informative text, pertinent quotes and stunning photographs of both historical monuments dedicated to our struggle for independence as well as actual revolutionary era artifacts and sites. The photographs range from actual tea from the infamous tea party to the Old South Meeting House, statues of George Washington and Abigail Adams, and a reenactment of the battle on Lexington Green. Through these photos and their accompanying quotes, the American Revolution is expertly brought to life. Endpapers depict a map showing the general location of each site.
