Yikes! Preachin' Christ w/ Songs that Blaze!,

This review is from: Revolutionary Theme Muzik (Audio CD)
This CD is proof that flow for Christ is annointed, while secular rhymes have deteriorated (b/c they are not of God). This CD is done the way I like it - allowing the beats to augment the rhymes. After all, the message of Christ should be the primary focus. What I love most about this album is that it lacks the self boasting that underlies most hip hop (including some gospel hip hop). There is even a track that addresses this issue. If you are a fan of hip hop, a fan of lyricism, & are in search of something you can put on blast WITH NO GUILT, buy this album now! Also, do yourself a favor and check out other Cross Movement artists (Da TRUTH, Ambassador, Phanatik etc). You will not be disappointed.

If you want to hear a real life perspective to ministry , get this album! R-swift is a talented and gifted minister of the gospel with a ministry you must hear, taking you from the streets to the church and everywhere in between. He is at the top of the game lyrically and the music is trandscendant, a definite must hear, enjoy!

Real hip-hop in every track also jesus centered, he gets nice on the flows and the beats are sick highlights are: By Any Means, On The Block, Dear Holy Hip Hop, Revolutionary Theme Muzik, Let's Work. If you dont have this cop now also go get his new album Soupbox. and his label mates Timothy Brindle and shi linne.

R Swift spits for those of you who desire discipleship or Christ period. Skill wise, he is in the mold of the greats (Lecrae, Trip Lee, Flame). Seriously I would put this album up against any secular product. Cross Movement does it again. Sound quality is tight, beats are east coast gritty and the lyrics ohh the lyrics are perfection. THANK YOU JESUS!

Easily the CD I listen to most often. If it were only a metter of music, I would strongly encourage everyone to purchase this CD. Since it's more importantly a matter of life & death, listen to your friend's copy if you can't afford it. On a musical level, this CD is very enjoyable with a lot of live band sounding boom-bap type beats. It's definitely Philly sound - jazzy but rough. This album is not a matter of favorites - I like every song. The relevance of every song to everyday life is amazing and the skill with which each rhyme is delivered should pique the ears (and hopefully hearts) of anyone that says they love hip-hop. Which brings me to the main point about this album, it's all about preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to the human experience. This album gives voice to the living hope that Christians have (in Jesus Christ alone) over the very real issues that all of God's people come from. He didn't call the righteous but the sinners to repent. Get this album.

This 2005 release is the sophomore effort from the Rhyme Council member, R-Swift, and his first on Lamp mode records, home of Shai Linne, Timothy Brindle, Redeemed Thought & Stephen Da Levite.
On first hearing I didn't really like this CD. So much so that until recently I relegated to the bottom of my CD pile. But on reflection, and repeated listening, this CD has some gems on display. This CD such topics as dealing with the struggles and strains of this life (smile featuring JR of Cross Movement Records, new CD:Life by Stereo ) how he met his wife, and his love for his daughter( Sunshine) How God is unchallenged as the King Of The Universe (Undisputed) how Christian cats how hard life on the street can be (On The Block)to the current state of Holy Hip Hop (Dear Holy Hip Hop!) What lifts this CD out of the ordinary is the caliber of the production, the various guest artists on show, and the lyrical skills of R-swift himself. Guests include the under rated J-Johnson ( formerly known as J-Silas) Stephen The Levite, Shai Linne, fellow Rhyme council members (Ackdavist, Young Josh, E'psitle, E.K.O) really do bring their a game to proceedings, to the betterment of the CD. The production is also on point, particularly DJ Essence, who produces the majority of the songs. particular praise goes to the 'Brethren Joint' with it funky piano hook that will definitely have your head nodding, great lyrics relating to brotherly Christian love, and 'Where's Love' which is a live jazzy instrumental, accompanied by R-Swift dropping three live stories of the gracious love of the Lord. "You can get it" featuring K-Drama, RuddyBoy, & This'l left me cold, as I can't stand that mid west/southern style of rap, and whilst the 'Rhyme Council Cypha is well executed lyrically; the poor production takes away the shine from the song. That aside, this is a good CD that is worthy of your attention. PS: Please note that this CD has been released on cross movement records, with new packaging, the 'Rhyme Council Cypha' deleted and a new song with Young Josh. |
