About the Author

DAVID C. KING is an award-winning author who has written over thirty books for children and young adults, including six books in this series: Civil War Days, Colonial Days, Pioneer Days, Wild West Days, Victorian Days, and World War II Days, all from Wiley. He has worked as a curriculum developer in both history and social studies, and as a high school English and history teacher.

This is an activity book that is actually quite readable. Lots of recipes, and some very very good crafts. Try the three-cornered hat (requires light sewing), a small Liberty Bell, and lots of toys and games.

The only drawback to this book is how much parental energy it takes to do these activities. Fun to do as a family, but to my mind, it is better when the kids can work with less intervention from Mom.

I donated my copy to my local upper elementary school of fourth and fifth graders. I found the book to be full of interesting creative activities relating to the Revolutionary War time period of the late 1770s. Well, David C. King has compiled a range of activities that can be both fun and entertaining for children and their parents.

A copy of this book should be in the school libraries to help inspire teachers in covering the life during the Revolutionary War. These books helps children (9-12 years old) in understanding and relating to life during another era with fun activities whether it's creating puppets, cooking and baking recipes, and other fun activities of the time period.
