5.0 out of 5 stars TIME as translated into wealth, fouir-part anti-poverty plan
Their first key focus is on TIME and its relation to space, knowledge, and effectiveness as translated into wealth. Innovative businesses are going 100 mph; civil collective groups at 90 mph; the US family at 60 mph, labor unions at 30 mph, government bureaucracies at 25 mph, education at 10 mph, non-governmental organizations including the United Nations at 5 mph, US...

2.0 out of 5 stars "Powershift Redux"
This book is really an update of "Powershift", the Tofflers 1990 work and the last of their now-famous trilogy. In my view, the whole "revolutionary" thing is over-hyped. Western Humanity has been in a revolutionary period for over a quarter millennium. So this current period of change is just another "chapter" in a long novel that is still evolving. A good subtitle for...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Proven Way To See The Future, February 14, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Meet one of the worlds most reknowned Futurists and pick his Brain!

The Third Wave Perspective is applied to New World situations and reveals a stunning twist of events in coming years that will revolutionize the way wealth is created in the 3rd Wave REAL-World! Dramatic events are expected and you need to know what they are and how they will unfold. Tofler takes his analysis to the next level laying out possible scenarios and spelling out the terms of technology in the new world order. Politics has not kept up with Technology and is failing fast. Don't be left out! Those who read this book will have a distinctive advantage over all those who don't, no matter how well educated they are.

My Favorite Author, Be sure to read all of Alvin Tofler's works.
(esp. The Third Wave, PowerShift, War and Anti War)
[knowledge of these other books not needed to enjoy Revolutionary Wealth btw]

5.0 out of 5 stars As Yogi said, "The future ain't what it used to be.", January 27, 2011
The Tofflers' latest look into the mists holds up pretty well after 5 years. No surprise since it comes from the perspective of folks who have been doing this for a lifetime - not just since their last assignment filling the 24/7 news hole.

A must addition to your Toffler shelf or a great way to start one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting ideas, but poorly written and edited, April 9, 2007

This review is from: Revolutionary Wealth (Hardcover)
Alvin Toffler's book "Revolutionary Wealth" expounds on many ideas quite popular in the press for the past few years, e.g. America's loss of manufacturing jobs and move into a service oriented economy, outsourcing, poor quality/obsolesence or American education, etc. However, he tends to drag on and on with ideas, and clearly lacked any kind of a roadmap or other organization skills. There also appears to have been poor to little editing, with ideas and concepts throw all over the book haphazardly, and too much time spent discussing mundane, trivial topics. At times the "book" comes out in a stream-of-consciousness, almost rant-like style.

For example, Toffler spends a lot of time discussing the concept of the "prosumer", i.e. all the work we do without pay, and especially work that used to be done by others, such as using an ATM instead of a teller. But this concept is introduced, discussed, and no logical conclusions were deduced from the long discussions, other than to vaguely say that we'll do more "prosumer" work in the future (although with only 24 hours a day, I suppose there is a logical limit).

In the end, I can't say that I recommend this book because there is little original material in there, but if you're interested in current events and reading about some basic economic trends, you might like this.

An interesting read, tough to follow at times but I was glad to make it through. Helps with a deeper understanding of Obamanomics. Recommended for snowy winter nights by the fireplace with alpine spice tea.

3.0 out of 5 stars Revolutionary Yawn, June 17, 2006
By
This review is from: Revolutionary Wealth (Hardcover)
In perhaps the most disappointing and over-hyped book of the year, the Tofflers rant and rave about almost every topic that will be a major issue in the coming years except the real significant ones - environment, terrorism, immigration and globalization. While there are kernels of "wisdom" scattered around this gigantic book, it certainly falls short of expectations. Much of the book talks about issues that are now fairly well covered in mainstream media and most themes mentioned in the book are "revolutionary" only if you have been sleeping for the past 10 years. Interspersed with juvenile cheap-shot humor (or attempted humor) and very machine-gun like writing style, the book is a certain yawn inducer. If you are patient, one can read through the entire book and glean away some interesting futuristic ideas or possibilities. Not necessarily a must-read, and certainly not a must-have. (perhaps earlier books from the author were so good that they set him up for this gigantic failure).

5.0 out of 5 stars How tomorrow's wealth will be created, July 24, 2006
This review is from: Revolutionary Wealth (Hardcover)
REVOLUTIONARY WEALTH: HOW IT WILL BE CREATED AND HOW IT WILL CHANGE OUR LIVES comes from the authors of FUTURE SHOCK and THE THIRD WAVE and examines how tomorrow's wealth will be created. It's not all about money and economics, however - it's also about educational opportunities and advantages, child-raising choices, and the work we do without pay for big companies. Moreover, it covers many connections between daily activities, form hobbies to habits, and wealth-producing non-money economic factors which economists might miss. Want to prepare for the real future? Don't just look at 'how to make money' books - consider the underlying social influences, as in REVOLUTIONARY WEALTH.
