5.0 out of 5 stars The 'Maxim' of "Metal" Magazines
Okay, so my title would probably scare off the Heavy Metal purists...but if you opted to actually pick up a copy, you'd realize it does the scene some justice. Revolver covers all aspects of rock music including it's sub-genres(Heavy/Black/Thrash/Death Metal as well as Punk,Pop Rock(i said unbiased, remember?) and everything in between. Advice colums; mostly high...

If you decide some magazine is lame, don't you just ignore the renewal notice and they'll stop sending it when your subscription runs out? Not so these guys. No, I get a letter from a "collection agency." A collection agency? You're kidding me. Just cancel the renewal and cut the strong arming. But no, this magazine's loser sales department seems to intend to intimidate...

Revolver covers all aspects of rock music including it's sub-genres(Heavy/Black/Thrash/Death Metal as well as Punk,Pop Rock(i said unbiased, remember?) and everything in between. Advice colums; mostly high school-aged kids seeking guidance on what to do about being picked on for how they dress or sappy love advice; and yes, even a 'who's wearing what and what their getting inked' articles fill the pages between Band news and album reviews-Every copy comes with a free pull-out poster usually with the Cover artist(s) on it. Want to hear about the return of Bad Brains? Gorgoroth's chuch-burning high jinks? or a review of a recent Black Dahlia Murder concert? Well look no further and pick up a copy today.

No, I get a letter from a "collection agency." A collection agency? You're kidding me. Just cancel the renewal and cut the strong arming. But no, this magazine's loser sales department seems to intend to intimidate young readers into resubscribing through these "threatening" renewal notices. Uncool. That deserves a flunking grade. Oh, and did I mention the 'zine is lame?

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME MAGAZINE!!, October 11, 2009

If you're into metal music then this magazine is for you...they give TRUE reviews (not like Rolling Stone). All the articles in this magazine are interesting and from different points of view. They do musician meets musician articles where they interview 2 different musicians from 2 different bands that is very interesting. They do articles about album art. They go to the past and pull up history from the older bands of metal. I LOVE THIS MAGAZINE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hottest Chicks In Metal Yearly Issue ROCKS!!!!, November 23, 2008
This review is from: Revolver (1-year) (Magazine)
I have been an uber-loyal reader of Revolver for well over 6 years now. They cover all of the sub-genres of Rock, and Metal, and even some of the Emo-style poopy (not a fan, can ya tell?). They do have some cheesy articles, like how to dress like so-and-so, but I do like the page that showcases a musician and shows a few tattoos and talks about them. Vinny Paul (pantera, damageplan, etc..) and Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil) both have thier "advice" columns. I have been turned on to new bands through Revolver, since 90% of what I like is not regular radio airplay (oh how I want sirius). I love -LOVE- the yearly "Hottest Chicks in Metal" issue, which they have now added a page for the monthly hottest chick in metal. If ya love metal, finding out new artists, and love hot chicks this is for you! Oh, and did I mention I'm a married 30 year old mother of 2 toddlers? Yea, this mag is for all into Rock and Metal!

This has got to be one of the best metal magazines on the shelf today. By far a kick ass mag of everything you could want to know about up and coming metal artists and established ones as well. If your a metal fan and you're not reading this magazine you should be. Revolver rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find Revolver one of the few remaing metal magazines that deliver the goods. Great information and interviews. I am a hugh metal fan and it has become increasingly hard to find anything about metal, so I look forward to every issue!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Meh, February 17, 2010

I was looking for a good magazine to keep up on new metal bands and what not. I really wanted to get Metal Hammer, but since I am in the states it is pretty spendy. I have gotten my first two issues and my intitial response is: meh. It really covers the mainstream metal, which I am not really into, granted I like some of it. If you want to get updates on what your local proclaimed metal radio station plays, this is the magazine for you. If you are wondering what Lord Ahriman does in his spare time, look elsewhere. It's better than Rolling Stone, but that's really not saying much.

2.0 out of 5 stars Used To Be Better, May 19, 2009
This review is from: Revolver (Magazine)
Maybe the publisher's are doing what they have to to sell as many magazines as possible, but for my taste, there are way too many articles on trendy, radio-friendly, pop or emo-type "metal" bands here. Bands which aren't metal at all, but just take a little "metal" seasoning and sprinkle it into their songs and image.

Now, in their defense, Revolver doesn't claim to be a metal-mag. Their sub-heading is actually 'The world's loudest rock magazine.' But I'm warning those who aren't familiar w/ the mag & might be looking for a slightly higher octane that this magazine walks a fine line, in my opinion.

There are some pretty lame regular-features like "Dressed To Kill" featuring your favorite "head-bangers" offering fashion tips: 'Jeans by Affliction~ Necklace by Gasoline Glamour!' And "Celebrity Advice Columns" by Vinnie Paul giving (to his credit) plenty of bad advice & Cristina Scabbia giving plenty of good advice to 15 & 16 year-olds. And maybe that's the target audience, so, there you go - what am I doing here?

They do feature metal bands (Lamb Of God, Slayer, Behemoth and so on) sometimes, but the articles are only so/so.

I will say that the subscription rate is hard to beat at a dollar an issue- and it's worth the price, but I don't get very excited when the new issue arrives because they seem to just get trendier & more consciously fashionable as they go.

So I won't be renewing my subscription unless they can turn it around and take it up a notch. But again, I'm probably not the audience they're after. I'm thinking Decibel Magazine is more to my taste; more intelligent & all around better bands on a more consistent basis.
