I heard this cd playing in a shop down in the French Quarter while I was down on vacation... and loved it so much that I immediately had to ask who it was and locate a copy to purchase! It's great!

Ronnie Magri, bandleader and drummer for the Shim Sham Revue,a New Orleans burlesque revival troupe, offers up a thoroughly entertaining CD that brings to life the music that once filled the nightclubs of Bourbon Street, and seeped into the cobblestones of every hot and humid alley, passageway and courtyard of the Vieux Carre.Included in the CD are beautiful renditions of such classic ... numbers as ''Stormy Weather'' and ''Mood Indigo'',and also a newly-discovered original composition for headliner ''Evangeline the Oyster Girl''.This nicely-packaged CD includes...exotic dancer photos of yesteryear- Blaze Starr,'' Evangeline the Oyster Girl'', Kalantan, Linda Brigette and Lily Christine among others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shim Sham Revue, September 24, 2008
This review is from: Shim Sham Revue- Music of New Orleans Burlesque Shows of the 30's, 40's & 50's (Audio CD)
I was looking for old fashioned music with spice and style and I found this wonderful gem. This music brings to mind when life had an edge,a refined beauty, and intelligence to it. One can almost see the exotic and eccentric customers in the smoke filled hall; listening, living life in all its richness, in a moment in time....

I highly recommend this wonderful, wonderful collection of music! I hope Ronnie Magri produces many, many more CD's of this feeling and nature. I can not wait for their arrival!! This recording is a must for all connoisseurs of remarkable music!

5.0 out of 5 stars Old time Music, January 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a great collection of New Orleans style Burlesque music. The older folks will enjoy this Shim Sham Revue. Old time music to strip by. Rag bands wre big from the 30's to the 50's down south and this brings it all back. A pleasure to listen to.

If you are looking for the real sound of classic burlesque Ronnie Magri's Shim Sham Revue is it! I have purchased several other "burlesque" CDs to find modern pop tunes or electronic-sounding originals that just don't have the sensual back beat, soaring horns, or the erotic phrasing that "real", old-fashioned strippin' music should. If you want to see this soundtrack in it's BEST use, google "Dita Von Teese" and Ronnie Magri and prepare to be taken back to the 40s/50s burlesque show! My fav on this disc is "Easy Rocking"...very seductive.
