While previous releases from France's The Feeling of Love were filled with experimental post-punk/noise-rock pieces that were anything but easy-listening, 'Reward Your Grace' finds the band moving into dreamier, more blissful territory, with actual hooks and an accessibility not really found on past albums, making for an enveloping listening experience that's melodic and catchy, yet capable of transporting the listener to a euphoric hypnotized state.

You get walls of shoegazy, fuzzed-out guitars and trance-inducing rhythms on the atmospheric "Julee Cruise," "Mostly Pet Semen Unit," and "Castration's Fields," as well as noisier versions of 60's garage-psych--complete with swirling organ--on "I Could Be Better Than You..," I Want You (Just Like an Ambulance)," and "Jealous Guy," all while retaining much of the dark, eerie vibe found on 2011's 'Dissolve Me'. My favorite of the bunch, though, is the infectious 'I'm Leaving You Today,' which is a dreamy, jangly psych-pop gem with captivating vocals and lyrics that will most likely embed themselves in the listener's brain after just a couple spins.

'Reward Your Grace,' though it may fly under most people's radar (and it almost did mine), is absolutely essential for fans of psych-rock, noise-rock, and shoegaze, as it contains elements of all three, with excellent production and a melodic sensibility that's pretty rare for music that's this ready-made for inner-space headphone-journeys. The year may be young still, but as a huge psych-rock fan, I'm having a hard time imagining anything topping this during the rest of 2013.
