This is a quick and easy read to remind you how to take back your life from the conveniences of technology. What struck me most was the need for "balcony time." So much of our lives is go, go, go and without taking time to step back to reflect on a regular basis. I immediately wrote down several ideas I could put into practice...still working on it but the book is inspiring! Highly recommend to anyone who feels over-wired!

Rewired tells us how the challenges of modern technology affect our mind, body, and emotions - even our financial well-being. And, more importantly, how we can achieve a healthier balance.

Camille Preston gives us facts, insights, and resources. She shares with us her experiences and successes with her own clients on how to stop the distraction of technology and garner its rewards by becoming more purposeful and productive.

As a friend of Camille's I read the book to support her, and to gain insights to a problem that I did not think was mine. My eyes were opened! Rewired gave me a much better understanding of how to use technology to help me rather than to frustrate or entertain me.

Do you think that multitasking is making you and your employees more productive? I know that I did, but this book has made me rethink that idea. Dr. Preston's discussion on the impact of the overload of technology on the brain is enlightening and the business case on productivity costs due to the excessive interruptions that we experience due to our "always on" technology is estimated to be an astounding $650 billion. However, this book does not advocate eliminating technology from our lives. Instead pragmatic suggestions are offered on how to step back, regain focus and then reincorporate technology into our personal and professional lives so that we are actually more productive through paying attention to the task at hand and practicing mindfulness. I recommend this book for individuals looking to reduce their stress levels while maintaining a high level of performance and managers looking to do the same for their teams. I have already adopted some of the recommendations and noticed the difference in how much I can accomplish without the sky-high anxiety.

I found the ideas interesting and helpful. The chapter with the case studies was a very important closing component. The author establishes her mastery and communicates her desire to help her fellow overwired human beings improve their lives. Bravo!

The book talks about making small changes to improve lives in our wired world. I would like to offer a very simple one .... make sure every e book includes a Table of Contents!!! This one doesn't!

I found myself wanting to refer back to earlier material as I read, and when formulating ideas to put into practice .... but with no Table of Contents, I was and am greatly frustrated. Come on! Who dropped the ball in producing this e book?

I am tempted to ask for a refund, but feel that is not worth the effort. I hope someone will read this and improve e book contributions to our wired world!

I received copy of Rewired: How to Work Smarter, Live Better, and Be Purposefully Productive in an Overwired World for review. Even though my background is in technology, and I love technology, I have found it, at times, intrusive. I've also wondered if my connection to technology has, in some ways, affected my ability to concentrate, and, as odd as it sounds, be productive.

Dr. Camille Preston is a psychologist, organizational consultant, and leadership coach. In Rewired, she suggests that many people are not just wired, but they are overwired. Being overwired causes us to feel stressed, burned out, and as if we are always "on" 24/7.

Dr. Preston makes a strong case that it is time to step back and unwire so we can rewire and be "purposely productive." The problem, she writes, of being overwired is, "the inability to do one thing, properly, at a time." I agree with her assessment. The distraction that technology provides harms the ability to focus and think deeply. As I read the book, I realized there are times when I check my email, phone, etc. even after I checked a few moments earlier. I find myself turning to my technology as a way to be distracted, not realizing it hurts my ability to be focused.

The book is broken into four main parts: Overwired, Unwiring, Rewiring for Wellness, and Success! Overwired gives evidence of the effects of technology to our productivity, relationships, and our brains and bodies. Preston gives steps in part two, Unwiring, on how we can unwire our tangled technological lives. In part three, she discusses how we can be purposeful with technology and use it as a tool to actually make our lives better.

This book brings forth an interesting concept, the idea that if we can get our wired world under control, we will be much more productive in the end. The book had a ton of great ideas and resources that were shared with the reader. The ideas were practical and easy to implement. What I loved most about the book was that you could easily get through this book in a very short amount of time, but the information shared will last so much longer! This was a great book that will make you think differently about your life and how you can get your life back under control!
