From Booklist

Gr. 1^-2. Dinosaur siblings Rex and Lilly shake things up when they go to school in their latest chapter book in the Dino Easy Reader series. Rex says his show-and-tell is a secret. He gives the class clues ("It's right here, but you can't see it"). Then, finally, he shows them--his new zoo underwear. The kids are delighted; the teacher looks resigned. In another story, Lilly reads aloud, but she gets stuck on a word; the teacher is encouraging, but Willy, the kid behind Lilly, keeps trying to shout it out; then she learns to sound out the word pest, and she enjoys telling Willy he is a bit of a pest, too. The bright watercolor-and-ink cartoon illustrations show the dinosaur characters with tails, spectacles, and other silly combinations that will get kids laughing and reading. Hazel Rochman

From Kirkus Reviews

Rex And Lilly Schooltime (32 pp.; $12.95; Apr. 1997; 0-316-10920- 7): Three short, funny chapters comprise this easy-to-read book starring dinosaurs Rex and Lilly from dino-experts Brown and Brown (When Dinosaurs Die, 1996, etc.). Rex faces show-and-tell and trading lunches, and Lilly deals with a know-it-all who tries to answer for her while she is laboriously sounding out a word. Using lots of picture clues and a limited vocabulary, the Browns carry newly independent readers along to a surprise twist at the end of each chapter, painlessly expanding their reading skills in the process. 5.0 out of 5 stars Laurie Krasny and Marc Brown Do Enjoyable Schooltime Story, December 19, 2006

(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
Rex and Lilly are two cute dino characters created by Laurie Krasny and Marc Brown, authors of the "Dino-Life Guides for Families." In these simple, charming stories, the two explore show-and-tell, trading lunches, and reading books.

"Show-and-Tell"

Rex has something special for his class for show-and-tell, but it's a big secret. Everybody tries to guess what it is by asking a series of questions. Rex's surprise is humorous in nature.

"Want to Trade?"

Rex decides to try trading lunches, setting off a chain of trades. Anyone who's ever had fun trading lunches at school (or elsewhere) before will have fun with this one.

"Lilly Reads"

Lilly has trouble reading at first, but eventually discovers the sheer joy to be found in reading.

The illustrations are softly colored and work nicely with the action. The characters, as anthropomorphized dinosaurs, will be enjoyed by readers of all ages.
