5.0 out of 5 stars Life-Changing App October 2, 2012
By hodeho
I've used this app for a while now and it has really made my life on public transit easier. It's extremely full-featured and you can organize your info and routes in many different ways. It's frequently updated and would be a bargain at twice the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strongly recommend this product December 29, 2011

TreKing helps navigate through the non-trivial public transportation system in Chicago, through your android smartphone (If you don't live in Chicago, you probably need a different app). I strongly recommend to pay the three dollars and get this app, as currently there is no other application with similar features. Although some features are missing (and it would be nice if it was bought by and integrated into Google map), right now it's your best bet, supporing CTA buses and trains (the "L"), Pace buses and the Metra - all the major public transportations services in the Chicago area, which now have tracking devices (GPS) on each vehicle.
I use it in two different modes. First, when you are on the street, you can click on "Map" from the main menu, to have a nice and visual Google-map style way to find nearby stops. The app automatically go to your current location, which I found annoying but can be disabled through the setting menu. Now, if you click on "Find Stops", you'll have icons for all nearby stops, on which you can click to get bus lines and estimation for arrival times (If you are clueless with respect to what bus you should use, there is also a Trek Planner option - but it's not integrated with the address book, and you cannot choose a destination on the map, so this feature is not very convenient).
Second, you can configure Treking from home. The idea is to plan your path with all possible busses and relevant stops. Unfortunately, in the current version of TreKing, the map is not integrated into the "My Trek" planning option, so your best bet is to have a laptop around. To sort out the relevant lines and stops, Use Pace and CTA online GPS websites ([...], [...]). First, add relevant groups in Treking (e.g. "Work" and "Home").

5.0 out of 5 stars Best tracking app out there August 1, 2011

By far the best tracker app out there. (and I have tried out like 2 dozen of them). It is super easy to check frequently used routes by saving them. The also does a really good job of finding stops around you, so you can walk up to a stop and see how long till the next bus\/train. Super useful.\n\nOther thing it does that I did not find in other apps. You can select a bus and see its route on a map, useful for those unfamiliar routes. \n\nOh and it has one of the best developers behind it. I made a simple suggestion and the dev contacted me saying it was added to the next build. So ya, great app and getting additions all the time.

4.0 out of 5 stars almost perfect June 1, 2015

This app is great for trekking through Chicago. The only thing that would make it perfect is to have the opportunity to track the bus to see which stop is the bus at now. All the other features are stellar I love knowing the bus number of my bus, and getting an estimate of how much time my commute might take.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Chicago public transportation tracker so far! October 17, 2013
Verified Purchase
I've tried a few of these apps, and this is by far the best one I've found -- far better, faster, clearer, and easier to use than even the C.T.A.'s own apps. It is very reliable for accurate arrival times, for both buses and trains. It's worth the small cost.
