Kalomiris, from the evidence of this beautifully played and faithfully reproduced record, was an important post-Wagnerian composer who has been shamefully neglected. (He was also, evidently, influenced by the Russian nationalists.) I hope Naxos includes his Heroic Symphony in a further volume of this composer's work. It's a masterpiece. But I must warn you: If you don't like loud, full-blown post-romantic Wagnerian orchestration adorned with gorgeous melodies and ingenious development, stay away from this guy.
