Crazy 'bout Elvis.,

This review is from: Rhapsody in Bob (Audio CD)
The Bobs are a great a cappella group consisting of three men and one woman. They sing songs in a fun, humorous style. This is the third album by the Bobs to consist entirely of cover versions of other performers' songs. They sings songs by They Might Be Giants, Louis Jordan, Spike Jones, Kurt Weill, Tom Petty, Cream and George Gershwin. Quite a varied group of performers! The songs are done in the Bobs' trademark style, with the first three being particularly humourous. "White Room" appeared on an earlier Bobs album, but this is a different version, with the verses sung by a man instead of a woman. Special mention should be made of "Rhapsody in Blue", which takes up half of the album (it's 17 minutes long). I was actually in attendance the first time they performed this song in public, long before they recorded this album. If you aren't familiar with "Rhapsody in Blue", it is a very long instrumental. So, how does an a cappella group perform an instrumental, you may ask? Well, they hire a pianist to come in and play the piano parts, and they sing the rest of the instrumental parts. It's really well done, although it may run a bit long for some people's taste. Fans of the Bobs will certainly enjoy this album. Here is the track listing:1. Dinner Bell 2. There Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens 3. I Was a Teenage Brain Surgeon 4. Alabama Song 5. Freefallin' 6. White Room 7. Rhapsody in Blue
