I had no problems installing it, so if you have any experience doing this yourself, it is something that anyone can do.

Tank case was mangled slightly but everything look as if it was in order and the valves were ok.

The unit was received in ready to use condition. I removed the packing before signing the receiving docs. ABF Trucking did a great job and there was no damaged noted. The pallet was put in the garage as directed. The RHEEM unit was made in Mexico but it is hard to find USA production today. I will install the unit Wednesday. A Thermal Expansion unit will be installed also. Looks like installation cost will be $250. I had estimates from $600 to $225 from bonded plumber. WOW!
By the way the utility has a $100 rebate on units with a .62 or higher EF rating. Sixty days to submit the paperwork. Pay attention

After 3 years with a Bosch Aquastar 1600H NG tankless hot water heater (search for my review on Amazon), I went back to a tank heater and bought this unit.

The price with shipping came out to around $590 which was significantly less than what I would have paid for a comparable high-efficiency 50 gallon unit from a local retailer.

A note on the delivery process is that although the unit did arrive in good condition on the day it was supposed to, during the ordering process at Amazon, it allowed me to select the delivery time. I selected 8 - 10am and figured I would work half a day from home to sign for the delivery. The trucking company did not show up until after 4pm. Had I known this, I could have worked a full day and not used time off waiting for them. Oh well, I dont blame Amazon or Rheem, so Im not going to let that affect my opinion of the product, just wanted to let everyone know that this could happen to you.

Installation was as expected for a typical hot water tank. In my area, I cannot use any flexible water or gas lines, so everything had to hard connected, which isnt a huge deal, just requires a little more patience to make everything fit.

One word I'll say on installation which isnt obvious by reading the manual, if you are hard wiring copper pipe directly to the Hot and Cold sides of the tank, you MUST use a di-electric union coming out of the tank. A di-electric union is required anytime you are connecting two different types of metal together. Without one, over time, corrosion will appear. My water lines are 1/2" and the output of the tank is 3/4" so I needed a di-electric union that is threaded 3/4" on one side and 1/2" sweat on the other end.

i was a little skeptical buying a water heater off the internet, but this thing is great. it was packaged great and the delivery was great. i had it installed in about an hour and a half ( that includes removing the old one). what more can i say except that i have had it for about six months now and have never had a problem. and i never run out of hot water.

Pin Hole leak in a new Rheem 42VR50's drain stem. This is ridiculous. Now I've got water all over the base boards around my water heater - with wood damage to boot.

To top it off Rheem is only going to cover 65% of the cost of replacing this broken stem of theirs. Not even willing to cover the cost of the part until I pushed them. They are a very bad company. They are trully disappointing.

Don't do business with this company.

Experience was all good. Ordered this on 9/22 and received 9/27. After reviewing the feedback from others I was nervous that there would be shipping dents/etc hence carefully inspected the delivery. The box was ok and certainly had some markings but the waterheater itself had no visible dents or issues. That was fortunate as my existing waterheater (located in the attic can you believe it?) was leaking into the pan and I was turning on and off as needed for showers and dishwasher use only. I had to replace the existing water heater pan base which was about a 25in diameter with a new pan that was 28in in diameter. This unit base is 23in around and my old one was 20in so I needed the extra space in case of water overflows into the pan. Also my prior waterheater had a psuedo base which allowed 1-2 in depth of water under the waterheater so as not to overflow the pan. This unit has no feet or base so I put five 1 inch thick bricks on the new pan for the waterheater to sit on. This was just for insurance so that if there is a future leak, the pan should not overflow before the water flows down the pan's drain. My existing waterheater vent pipe was within an inch height of my old so this was a 5 min install to connect. For the cold and hot water connections I used 18in gator bite water heater connections. Literally seconds/minutes to connect both lines. (I fussed about whether to solder new copper but based upon research felt the quick connections should work ok and apparently have a 50yr warranty on the components.) The install went fine and water heater works perfectly. It is more efficient than my prior model which had to have the thermostat on maximum to get enough hot water to fill one of my tubs.

My wife and I had been searching for a replacement water heater, and after reading some of the reviews, we were a little nervous about ordering a water heater on Amazon due to feedback about damaged product. The price was good, and we thought we would take the chance. The box arrived, and showed no damage, however, after opening the box. the water heater had a good sized dent in the top edge, and a crease in the bottom. The damage was cosmetic, but I wanted to talk with customer service before doing anything else. Took a couple of calls, but then spoke to Sean, and explained the situation to him, and Amazon was willing to give us a good discount on the product if we were willing to keep it. Since there was no damage to the actual tank, we kept it, installed it, and are enjoying the new water heater. I am not writing to complain about the damage, but I am writing to say that Amazon stood behind it, and was willing to work with us to make it right. We will continue to do business with Amazon with service as we received on this product.
