AWESOME...however a little pricey to install even if your a diy
on October 31, 2010
I love this tankless water heater with a passion, however the main unit is the cheapest part of the whole thing. The installation is VERY EXPENSIVE, you must buy special high flow natural gas lines "3/4 pipe", water valves that can easily be used to clean the water heater from calcium/mineral buildup if you live in a hard water area or have a well "never had a problem with this",expensive stainless steel vents that only rheem offers, you must also have an outlet to power the water heater unlike the old water heater where a thermocouple supplied power. However once installed you will never go back to those old style wasteful tank heaters again. The biggest plus is that you will never have to worry about running out of hot water again. The instructions said something about a high flow gas meter but i never bothered and never had a problem running everything on full tilt even during the coldest day of the winter.
Pros..constant hot water, low gas bill, remotely set the water heat "i have mine set on 120 f", tax rebate, stainless steal vent that will never rust, very very small
Cons...takes an extra few seconds for water to get hot, cost a fortune to install whether your a diy or have it done professionally, makes small clicking noises when turning on and turning off, complicated to the extreme..lot of parts inside that may break..i.e. circuit board, fan, igniter, remote panel, heat exchanger, sensors out the wazoo. I opened it up out of curiosity WOW! looked like NASA engineered it.
ADDED... JUNE 13 2011 This is awesome i love it!! lowest gas bill i ever had during the summer $15
Update on June 7,2013 Still going strong
