an incisive look at a hackneyed era, January 13, 1998

This review is from: The Rhino History of Rock n Roll the 70s (Paperback)
So smart! So funny! After all the tired newspaper and magazine articles on the '70s, I thought I could never be interested in another essay on disco, mega songs like "Freebird", or even soul/funk. I was wrong. Eric's writing is clever and thoughtful and looks at the reprocussions of a revival that has already happened and is with us still.

Wit and nostalgia nicely combined., February 19, 1998

For those who have a thing for the music of the 70's, like myself, this book is a great place to lose yourself in. It is smartly laid out, with individual sections on topics and fads. You'll find yourself laughing at stories that may very well hit extremely close to home. The only complaint is the "Bonus CD" which is very short in length and not very representative of the things talked about in the book. Next time they should either do a better job with the CD or lower the price and skip the CD completely.
