Ok. It's great to see this series on DVD. But I just don't understand why some of these episodes are edited. Why is Shout using edited versions? So far I've purchased the 3 seasons and some of these episodes are edited. I'd say about 3 or 4 per season. For example in season 3 there is an episode called "Meet the Levys". Years ago I saw the episode and there is a scene where a woman keeps getting on the same elevator thinking she's going up and when the door opens she's still on the ground floor. After 4th time she gets back on the elevator with Rhoda and Gary and says something very funny. I haven't seen that scene in over 20 years. On the reruns the whole scene is cut out. When I was watching the dvd it it looked like it wasn't and I said, "Finally I get to see the whole scene and the funny remark the lady says." Well. The scene was included but not all of it. She gets off the elevator for the 4th time and the doors shut and the scene was cut there. In the original she gets back on the elevator and says something to Rhoda and Gary. I know she has dialogue because in the credits she is shown saying that remark to them but it's the closing theme we here. No dialogue. I thought I would finally see this whole scene again in the commercial dvd. But no. In season two the episode where the family thinks Lenny is going to kill himself his uncle is supposed to have dialogue also because in the closing credits he's seen saying something. But no. He has no dialogue in the episode. And several other episodes that were cut just like these. As I said. It's great to see Rhoda on DVD, but if we are purchasing these sitcoms they should not be edited.

I love Rhoda and I have to agree with the other reviewer the show just kept getting better after Rhoda and Joe divorced.
I hope the fans buy this so we get season 4 and 5 and then Phyllis. Shout Factory does really follow through with classic television unlike SONY or CBS video. Shout Factory should be given the rights to all the classic shows!

Much Better than seasons one and two,

Rhoda hit its stride with this season. The weakest character, the husband Joe, was sidelined in a separation. In those episodes where he did appear, he was used to good effect as someone you would ultimately want to divorce. Rhoda is a character with a lot of facets and depth whereas Joe seems to exist on one plane only. If he weren't good looking, he wouldn't have anyone who wanted to spend time with him other than tv football watching fans or fellow heavy construction workers.
Replacing Joe was the incomparable Ron Silver as Gary Levey who went on to star in movies and tv for the rest of his life. He is Rhoda's and Brenda's friend, not their boyfriend. He is just wonderful every moment he is on camera. Then came comic Ann Meara as stewardess Sally, at counterpoint with her comic husband Jerry Stiller, who plays her ex. They are also terrific. However, the best additions were two lounge lizards, Nick Lobo and Johnny Venture. Nick dates Brenda and Johnny is trying to date Rhoda. Johnny is a hugely successful Las Vegas entertainer. He wears tons of jewelry, velvet suits with ruffled shirts, pompadour styled hair and sings like a Frank Sinatra wannabe. He scores with every woman he meets except for Rhoda so Rhoda becomes his primary quest. These two are fabulous together and Rhoda's wisecracks have never been better than they are with Johnny Venture. The only thing missing is Ida. Ida, played by Nancy Walker, tried her own show this season. It didn't work out so she came back. But you only see her on the first episode here. However, after two seasons of watching her do her Jewish mother bit with Brenda and Rhoda (which she also did on "Mary Tyler Moore"), I was ready for something else anyway.

I have learned about Rhoda just a few years back when I bought the DVD from the Mary Tyler Moore show. I loved Rhoda character and when I knew that she had her own series I had to see it. I love it. And now I'm waiting for the rest of the seasons.

Best Sitcom Ever,
By
This review is from: Rhoda: Season Three (DVD)
I am so glad and appreciative of Shout Factory, and the multitude of other Rhoda show rooters, for keeping this series afloat. It has to be the most underrated sitcom in television history. Still, with 17 Emmy nominations and 2 big wins for stars Valerie Harper and Julie Kavner, who center the show, it is in terms of Emmy acknowledgement the second most successful sitcom spin-off in television history behind Frazier, which itself is merely an upside down Rhoda. In this season, Rhoda and Joe separate, and The Separation episode, although very sad, is arguably the best episode of any sitcom ever (right up there with Rhoda's One is a Number and The Mary Tyler Moore Show's Chuckles Bites the Dust.) Sure, it is sad, but it also is poignant, and I can see why some viewers left (at least until the next season when Rhoda became more of a top 20 regular again). It was just too painful for some people to watch, but if you did, you laughed a lot, were encouraged by how strong a woman can be in Rhoda, and were treated to the best sitcom in television history reaching its peak in brilliance and laughter. Johnny Venture and Gary Levy, moreover, proved to be fitting foils for the way too serious character in Rhoda. And, while Nancy Walker only appears in The Separation episode, for which she does some great comedy with David Groh, who is at his best, and she should have won the Emmy hands down, it is great to see Anne Meara show up in her place for about seven episodes as the oldest living stewardess, Sally Gallagher.

I've purchased the first two seasons of "Rhoda" and am enjoying both. Many of the episodes I've not seen since the CBS airings. Many of them I haven't seen at all. What I'd really like to say is: Please, Shout Factory, release both seasons of "Phyllis". Overall, I really liked that show over "Rhoda". The Mother Dexter character is a hoot! It would be great if both seasons could be released together!

Rhoda: Season 3, as always, has given me many laughs. The characters are well written and the actors who portray them are exceptionally good at acting out the nuances of the character. I enjoy Rhoda and plan to acquire all the seasons as soon as they are made available.

Rhoda - what can I say? If you're a fan of Rhoda & Mary Tyler Moore - you gotta love it - no matter the ups and downs Rhoda faces with her husband - she has wit & style. TV shows just aren't like this anymore. You want funny, clean and nostalgic TV programs? Here you go!
