This review is from: Rhode Island General Court of Trials, 1671-1704 (Hardcover)
This was a great resource to find. In looking up our ancestry we had accounts of the murder trial of Thomas Cornell, but this book contained the entire witness testimonies on both sides. It was such a controversial trial because Cornell was found guilty of murdering his mother and executed by hanging. However, his guilt was based on his uncle and aunt's testimony that the dead woman appeared to them as a ghost and cried out that she was burned. No real evidence. Can you say, Witch Trial! It was during that same time in history. After all these years of hearing the ghost stories, I was finally able to read the full account and feel justified in feeling that Cornell got a bad deal on this one. Very readable, often giving both old language form and a new language translation.
