This "rubber" chicken is not rubber at all but a more rigid plastic. It is built with two sections and the neck is clumsily glued on with with glue resin actually oozed out on the external body. If you had to fold this chicken up it would not return to its original shape like an actual "rubber" chicken used for magic tricks, games, etc.
If you want a real rubber chicken avoid this one. It's junk.

It's humor, and it's an age detector. Most people who are over 40 can't help but laugh when you walk in with one of these gripped in one hand. Interestingly, people under 30 or so, they're just baffled, not amused at all. Which is added fun.

The rubber is definitely a harder rubber. Not hard, but I also wouldn't consider it "soft rubber" as the description implies.
Mine had the visible line between head and body that others mentioned, though it did mostly return to its original shape when folded; it was just a bit "deflated" and flattened. Mre worrying to me was that the rubber in the lower part of one of the legs was really thin, as if it wasn't molded correctly/evenly. But it was $5 and serves its purpose.

Rubber? Not quite. Does it do its job? For sure.,

I'd call what this chicken is made out of flexible plastic. It seems durable enough and does its job. For a cheapo chicken prop, what more can be asked?
